Puttur: Taluk Sahitya Sammelana Revels in Uniqueness of Kannada Language

Puttur, Oct 25: The undivided Dakshina Kannada district is known for its multi-linguistic approach. People speak and adore variety of languages which also reflects the culture, background and educational system prevailing here and is thus a model district as far as the unity among people of different languages is concerned, said Dr D Sadashiv Bhat.

He was presiding over the 13th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in the taluk organized at K R Nagaraj stage erected for the purpose in front of Mahalingeshwar temple here on Saturday October 23. He further said that the Kannada 'nudi' has its own significance and has Dravidian roots, which the Kannadigas have still preserved. Though there is an influence of Sanskrit in Kannada literature, it has not forgotten its roots till date. The Sanskrit touch has only made Kannada literature even more powerful and appealing, he added. He also acknowledged the contribution of Christian missionaries to the growth of Kannada literature.

Speaking about the medium of instruction in schools Bhat said that it is quite hard to teach children in their own mother tongue. Hence rending education to all in the state language is considered ideal, he

Earlier after inaugurating the Sammelana, chancellor of Karnataka Sanskrit University, Bangalore professor Mallepura G Venkatesh said that the influence of English language and modernization has in a way caused some hindrance to the growth of Kannada literature in the state. Considering this, such Sammelanas are very effective and can contribute greatly to the development of Kannada literature, he said.

Member of parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel hoisted the national flag. MLA Mallika Prasad inaugurated the procession. Puttur Kannada Sahitya Parishjat president Subrahmanya Kolattaya hoisted the parishat flag.
Taluk panchayat president Savithri Shivaram released the memorial addition. Town municipal president Kamala Anand released the book.

Professor V B Artikaje, district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kalkura, welcoming committee honorary president Savanoor Seetaram Rai and secretary N K Jagannivas Rao were present on the dias. Welcoming committee president Muliya Shyam Bhat welcomed. Padma K R Acharya proposed the vote of thanks.

Enriching Poetry Session

‘Beladingala Kavigoshti’ , a poetry session was held on the occasion. Poet and litterateur Jayanth Kaikini presided. He said that poetry has immense power and only people who are pure in heart and soul without any selfishness in them can compose good poetry.

He also briefed the budding poets the way of composing good poetry and the way of pronouncing the words during poem recitation. Poets including Harinarayan Maadaavu, B Purandhar Bhat, B M Basheer, Dr Narendra Rai Derla, Krishnaveni Prasad and Sandhyadevi among others recited their poems during the session.

Valedictory Ceremony

The valedictory ceremony was held on Sunday October 24. Renowned critic Eshwarayya was the chief guest. He urged the Kannadigas to be proud of their language and respect it along with other languages. The people of the state should never develop a inferiority feeling towards Kannada. Other languages should not make a negative influence on Kannada, he added.

Dr D Sadashiv Bhat, Pradeep Kalkura and Puttur Kannada Shitya Parishat chief secretary Mahesh Kaje spoke on the occasion. S Subramanyam, Shyam Bhat and N K Jagannivas were present on the dias. Welcoming committee vice-president Zohra Nisar welcomed.

Joint secretary Padma K R Acharya proposed the vote of thanks. Manjula Subramanya conmpered the programme.
