Udupi: Man accuses placement agency of cheating, case registered

Udupi, Jan 14: A man filed a cheating case against an employment agency for duping him on the pretext of providing employment in a Singaporean IT company.

According to the FIR filed at the city police station, complainant Sagar Shetty knew accused Sunaina Iqbal (38), daughter of Mohammed Iqbal, resident of Badagabettu, Kukkikatte in the taluk, since one and a half years. Accused Sunaina runs an employment agency called Destiny Placement.

The accused promised to provide a job to the complainant in an IT company in Singapore and asked Rs 1.5 lac towards visa fee, stamping fee, flight charges and office fee from the complainant. Complainant Sagar Shetty paid Rs 35,000 by cash to Sunaina on June 4, 2019, and later paid Rs 40,000 by withdrawing money from an SBI ATM on August 22, 2019. Sagar further paid an amount of Rs 10,000 to the accused on August 22, 2019, through online to the account number which Sunaina provided.

The accused neither provided any employment to complainant Sagar Shetty nor returned the money. A case in this regard is registered in the city police station under crime sl no 10/2021, column 406, 420 of IPC.

    There are many such cases of fake placement agency,hardly 1-2% is coming in Media.
    One general fact, prior to paying any money to any consultant, as per my knowledge none of the singapore companies are recruiting through agency.
    These singapore companies are recruiting directly through their online portal.
