Udupi, May 22: In the worst ever air tragedy in Karnataka which claimed the lives of 160 people in the Mangalore today morning, 14 people are from Udupi district.  According to the information received from our correspondents Hemnath Padubidri  and Shekar Ajekar there is pall of gloom in many of the households which have lost their loved ones in the tragedy.

Jayapraksh Sherigar (28) from Udupi lived in Padubidri in his sister’s place before going to Dubai 3 years ago and was working for Dubai Medicals.  He was popular among the people in the surrounding areas of Mood Murnad where he was running the Sapthami Medicals. This is the third time Jayaprakash is coming to Udupi and he had informed his friends about it.  In the Karnataka mini film festival held in Moodbidri Jayapraksh had received the award for the best film for “Sudho” on behalf of the director.

The air crash tragedy has claimed 4 members of Mohammed Ziad ‘s (42)  family including his wife Sameema (36), sons Zubair (3 1/2  years ) and Zainab (2).  Luckily he had left behind his two children Rohan and Rabia back in Dubai with his wife’s brother.  Mohammed Ziad owned a steel factory in Dubai and he had come to Valakkad to attend his mother Halimadi’s funeral.  One can now imagine the atmosphere in the house which has to bear the pain of loosing five members in the span of two days.

Kishore Kumar (28) of Bailumane was working for a private company in Dubai and was returning his home at Bailumane after a gap of 2 years.

Flavia Lobo along with her children Venish and Vishal from Sheelapura had gone to Dubai on a visiting visa and are among the dead in the tragedy.

Kevin Sequeira (16) had recently passed his SSLC exams and had gone to Dubai to visit his parents there and tragedy struck when he returned.

Tears rolled my eyes as I saw these pictures of the crash and our beloved people.May the lord grant these souls eternal rest and peace. One thing I never forget is..just before 3 days as we were driving through Airport road in the evening My friend David mentioned about this air crash..its quite shocking to me that God even told this man about this crash before its happened. He said disaster is waiting in this airport and people do not even know about it...I hope God will use this dear man to warn people before anything of this kind happens in any form in the future.May we all take courage in this darkest hour and look to God and his ways of operating his will.Gods ways are not our ways. Sure someday in Heaven we shall all meet each other..That's the hope my friends..May God have mercy on us

Its extremely painful, to witness such a tragedy. I've never seen anything like this in mangalore before. our thoughts need to be with the families of the demise. Moreover, such air mishap was predicted a decade ago, by some who protested against its topography and location. it's impossible to rescue peolple, in that valley.authorities must make provisions for 100% safety at the runnaway, otherwise we may have to witness some more happening like this. Remember, that mangalore airport is considered one of the most dangerous in the world!
