NH project between Mangaluru-Bengaluru stalled, commuters face problems

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 12: An ambitious project of the people of Dakshina Kannada has been stalled for the past two years. Due to technical reasons, the development work of national highway 75, which connects Mangaluru with the capital city of Bengaluru in the shortest possible time, is stalled halfway.

The hills which are dug for this project turn into ponds during the monsoon season. The 75 km road widening project between B C Road to Addahole has been halted for two years. L&T company which had taken the contract for Rs 821 crore in 2017 has stopped the work halfway citing a loss in the project. Due to this, there is a chance of landslide from the hill portion that is dug for this project.

In addition to the construction of roads, the plan included the construction of 14.5 km long service roads, two flyovers, two big bridges, 14 small bridges, nine underpasses and toll plaza. Though the company started the project at a brisk pace, it faced many obstacles while completing 45 km of road widening.

The company had to reconstruct one road, which was already built, as stones and mud started falling on it. The company had requested the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to give compensation of Rs 108 crore for the same reason. But NHAI did not pay heed to the request of the company, due to which L&T has stopped the work of building the highway.

Two years have passed since L&T stopped the work. The general public is facing difficulties while using the half-done roads, especially during the rainy season. People are urging people’s representatives to start work again as soon as possible.

It's our sad fate that we have terrible leadership that cannot resolve such issues.! These companies and leaders must be held to account for inconveniencing the public. Mangalore city's development will take a huge beating because of such hopeless leaders.

This is the precise reason why India is lagging behind China.
We are quick to inaugurate, little later pace of the work goes down, numerous hurdles come in, work stops and then stalled.
Uncertainty and chaos to public will never end! Hopes dashed! Same kind of drama goes on for the past 73 years!

What has any govt done in the past 15 years for the development of Udupi, DK districts? Places declared as SEZ were taken back, No new IT companies have been pushed here even when there is enough resources like electricity and water. Roads are taking years to complete, no proper railway connectivity from Blr to Mlr or Udupi 13 hrs tavel is a joke for a country boasting about bullet train. When elections come we all vote for our fav parties but after that no party does anything different. In the name of development all that was done was repairs thats it. Again we are also to be blamed as we are not bothered and we don't ask for anything, we are adjusting to everything. Thats the reason today all the youths are out of Udupi MLR and only aged people are residing here.

Why not give the contract to the Chinese. If you see their highways, they have built excellent roads in more difficult terrains.

L&T which is supposedly wanting to build complex submarines could not do a simple job of building a highway. What happened? Was the planning faulty and there was cost over-run. Giving lame excuses like stone and mud falling on roads is dumb for a class a contractor who has built many roads in India and knows the system well. nobody stopped them from inspecting the site before accepting the tender. get it?
