Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 3: Managing director of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (MESCOM), Snehal R, said that on the model of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, MESCOM will bring out an app to enable people to get all power supply related information instantly and to enable them to pay bills. She said that the app would be released within two months. She also explained that digital meter fixing and the work of providing cover conductors for cables in selected areas of Dakshina Kannada district will be undertaken soon.

She was speaking at a media interaction programme held on Thursday, July 2.

"We have formed a special squad with 851 employees for attending to emergency work during the rainy season. 46 vehicles have also been sanctioned for the purpose. The employees will be spread over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts," she explained.

When journalists suggested for laying underground cables in malnad and forest areas as power cables frequently get snapped there due to fallen trees, she said that maintenance of underground cables in such areas is difficult and these cables suit only the urban areas.

MESCOM Mangaluru zone chief engineer Manjappa, advised farmers, domestic consumers etc to fit earth leakage circuit breakers to do away with the incidents of suffering electric shocks.

Technical director Padmavati and general secretary of Journalists Union Ibrahim Adkasthala were present. Dakshina Kannada district working Journalists Union president Srinivas Nayak Indaje welcomed the gathering. Journalist B N Pushparaj proposed the vote of thanks.

It will be very helpful for consumers if the old overhead cables are replaced with underground cables so that uninterrupted power is provided.

At present, the power is disrupted very often, sometimes for even few seconds, due to which electrical/electronic appliances get damaged and consumers have to incur huge expenses to repair.

I hope the authorities of Mescom will look into this issue and try to do the needful.
