‘80 crore people to get free food grains till November end’, announces PM Modi

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Jun 30: Amid rising Covid-19 cases, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Tuesday, June 30.

He said, “In comparison to other countries, India's mortality rate is lower and India is in a stable condition. With Unlock 1.0, a lot carelessness is being observed in people's behaviour. And this is coming at a time when we need to be more alert. This is a dangerous trend. People had followed rules properly during the lockdown period. They need to continue to follow those rules even now. Be it the village chief or the prime minister of the country, no one is above the law.

“The government had made sure that no poor sleeps on an empty stomach during the lockdown. That is why we had come up with the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana. Funds have been transferred to 9 crore farmers for procurement of grains for the Garib Kalyan Yojana. The government has provided free food grains, 5 kilos wheat or rice, to the poor.

“My announcement is related to this. The onset of Monsoon is our country is accompanied with a lot of festivities, which leads to more expenses. Hence, 80 crore people will be given free food grains till November end under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana. This scheme is going to cost the government more than Rs 90,000 crore.

“The government is also mulling over 'One Nation One Ration Card' scheme. This will benefit the poor immensely.

“The success of the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana goes to India's farmer and the taxpayer. Without them, the scheme to feed the poor would not have scaled such heights.

“We will continue our fight against coronavirus crisis, we will follow guidelines and ensure precaution to contribute to the reopening of the economy. We will work towards becoming Atmanirbhar or self-reliant, we will be vocal for local. We will maintain do-gaz-zoori and will not be negligent. With this, I take your leave,” he said.

This was PM’s sixth address to the nation in four months since the pandemic broke out and started getting out of hand. His address comes as the government prepares for Unlock Phase II, beginning from July 1, with relaxations in night curfew, provision for more domestic flights and trains, and clearance for more than five people in a shop.

It may be recalled, in addition to lockdown, PM Modi had announced an Rs 20-lac-crore financial package to boost the economy and aid migrant labourers affected by the coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown, in his addresses to the nation.

for trader business community, lockdown came as boon..all unsold stock of years sold out...substandard, fake goods flooded the market..vendors/banias can decide the price of many items by affixing false price tags , not much choice for the customers...

hoarding is increased to create scarcity feeling.....traders have made money in a few months what they could not have earned in years...when lockdown started, many medical shops sold (disposable) mask at 10 rs. per piece (actual price Rs40 for pack of 5, i.e. 8 Rs. per piece)...since malls closed, consumer has no choice to examine the item, compare prices, stale items etc.

because of short time window for shopping, customer cannot choose properly comparing prices, genuineness, stale items (nearing expiry date)...same case with fruits, vegetables..they make hay while the virus shines...

Wow. Lie after lie after lie. And without any remorse. Moreover nowhere China was discussed. Announcement after announcement about schemes that exist only in his speeches. If it wasnt for the general public, even God wouldn't be able to count the migrant dead bodies on the roads. China has intruded nearly half a kilometre inside the disputed territory and yet not one word there. I think the 56 inch chest is limited to Pakistan and not China. Every question has an answer that has Rahul Gandhi, the Italian connection of Sonia and Nehru. I dont know why then was Advani who was born in Pakistan made the Deputy PM. Now seeing my comments and my Christian name and not having any answers, some people here may call me a rice bag. What a state of affairs.

Now 80 Crore people means nearly 62% of Indians are getting free food grain till NOVEMBER?? 2020 or 2021??? Don't feel sad/bad that you have not achieved as of date 20% of your schemes announced???

Petrol and Diesel prices have sky rocketed!!!! even though international crude oil is nearly 1/3rd of May 2014 prices??? It has affected the poor man badly in increase of all essential items price rise!!!

Modiji, heavens sake please complete the promised schemes/policies first and then go for additional scheme announcements!!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.

On June 22nd, 2020 the Congress President wrote letter to the Prime Minister Modi requesting “The Union government must consider extending provision for free food grains for a further period of three months, i.e., from July-September 2020,” she added. “Several states have requested for the same.”

This is her second address to the nation. In April She requested to give free ration to even those without cards seeks 10-kg grain for each beneficiary under National Food Security Act.

I am glad that Prime Minster Modi has finally started listening to the oppositions. Hope his government will continue to take criticism into constructive opportunity.

I would also like to request Congress to address the unemployment concern of the nations youth.

There are two types of people. First type are the ones who think that there is nothing like poor people in the country. They argue that nobody should get free food and they consider these people are burden to the country.

Second type of people do have concern on the poor and they think that right to food should be applicable to all citizens of this country. In extraordinary situation, when job is not available to such people they need to get food. This act had come in force when UPA was in power and it is the duty of the government to feed the people. If Modi walks the talk then this need to be appreciated.

Your statement "so many of our people here will not starve for next 5 months!!!" shows your mindset about others who are raising their voice against the injustice to the weaker sections. Most of the people here are well educated and seen both ups and downs in the life. Life is a good teacher. May be it will take some more time you to learn the real life and then I am sure that you will not make such statements.

What about the jobs. How can an average from middle class community will survive ? The unolanned lockdown hit the entire nation and left beyond the control of the govt.

There is no income level to identify these 80 crore people. Meaning, BPL card holders in general. Aren't they already getting 30 Kg rice per month ? Now what more grains ? Wheat ? Millet ?

What about the working class ? The salaried people who are paying tax ? For them more tax perhaps ??

Kamat. Go to poor family's and you should take stock on 30/7/2020 if they have received any grants from the current government.
