Union government bans 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, UC Browser

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SHP)

New Delhi, Jun 29: In a major move on the technological end, the Centre has blocked 59 apps with Chinese links. The list also includes the widely popular TikTok and UC Browser. The announcement for the same was made on Monday as retaliation to the June 15 clashes at Ladakh by the Chinese troops in which 20 Indian soldiers died in action and more than 70 were injured.

As per sources, the intelligence inputs have reported that the apps have been violating the terms of usage, compromising users privacy, and being used as spyware or malware.

In a statement, the government said the apps were blocked 'in view of the information available they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order.'

Further, a statement from the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology claimed that there has been an 'exhaustive recommendation' from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

As per the ministry, it also received representations from people on 'security of data and risk to privacy' regarding certain apps.

"Likewise, there have been similar bipartisan concerns, flagged by various public representatives, both outside and inside the Parliament of India. There has been a strong chorus in the public space to take strict action against apps that harm India's sovereignty as well as the privacy of our citizens," the statement read.

Readers, every historical decisions, taken by PM Modiji, like abolition of Article 370, Triple Talak, Balakot air strikes, Neutralizing radicals and Chinese agression, have unnerved enemies within n beyond our borders. Evidences of close liaisons between Chinese government and radicals like absconding Zakir Naik, who bankrolled Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, has indeed exposed the treachery of political dynastical parties. Therefore, it will not be wrong to conclude that such agression against India will not cease, rather escalate... Need of the hour is to isolate and resolutely prosecute these axis of evil !!!!

Most of the companies listed here have donated to PM CARES Fund. Blocking these apps will not have significant economic impact on China. This blockage will not alter balance of trade deficit with China. BJP govt should stop doing business with China same like India has done with Pakistan. Modi is not naming China by name how Modi can call China and stop doing business with China???????????.....

The Observer Research Foundation, a foreign policy think tank associated with foreign minister S. Jaishankar’s son, received funding from the Chinese consulate, including that in Calcutta, in 2016. The ORF is supported by Reliance Industries.

Another think tank, the Vivekananda International Foundation, has declared on its website that it has working relationships with nine Chinese institutions on matters of foreign and strategic policy.

National security adviser Ajit Doval is founding director of the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), which shares close ties with BJP leaders and the RSS.

Is symbolic boycott of blocking the Chinese app and continuing the business tie up with crony capitalist who support the BJP party fund is against nationalism and insult to the 'Bharat Mata' which party worships.

    1. When is the BJP's central government is going to ban China from strategic sector like Defence, Infrastructure and telecommunications?
    2. If there is real nationalism these high value contact need to cancelled and immediately awarded to experience state owned companies of India.
    3. When will the advertisement for the Chinese owned brand stared by our players and Bollywood stars going to withdrawn?
    4. Is HDFC back can survive without investment of Chinese central bank?

Sir, Truth always triumphs. It hurts only for those who claims to 'nationalist' and chants fake slogans' Bharat mata ki jai'. If you any BJP follower is true loved of the nation, they will destroy all Chinese possession in fire. If they really worship 'Bharat mata' with devotion then asked the government to withdraw all Chinese investment from the strategical sector of defense, infrastructure and telecommunication.
Stop defending Modi. Stand with the nation. Nation is first or Modi?

Dear kamath sir, do you think 2Bn is a great loss for China? China is spending far more (about 135 Bn ) in sub Saharan Africa. And building a strong Debt trap.
Ban on apps is OK. But real ban should have been on material imports like cheap Chinese (dumped) goods

Beware government. India is losing its hold from Indian ocean China has dumped some billions in Sri Lanka and I guess in return it's getting a naval station. Baluchistan is sold to China by our spineless neighbor so China has us sorrounded. So instead of these flimsy measures please show some guys like what A B Vajpayeeji did and Fight

India has huge trade deficit with China – its largest with any country. In 2018-19, India’s exports to China were mere $16.7 billion, while imports were $70.3 billion, leaving a trade deficit of $53.6 billion.

In 2017-18, almost 60% of India’s import requirements of electrical and electronic equipment was met by China. In our smartphone industry, out of the five bestselling phone brands in India, four are Chinese – Xiaomi, Vivo, Realme and Oppo. These four brands combined dominate over 60% of the smartphone market in India.

A think-tank associated with the Indian Council on Global Relations, estimates $4 billion of Chinese tech investment in Indian startups. The Alibaba Group alone has strategic investments in Big Basket ($250 million), Paytm.com ($400 million), Paytm Mall ($150 million), Zomato ($200 million) and Snapdeal ($700 million).

Similarly, another Chinese group, Tencent Holdings, has investment in Indian firms like Byju’s ($50 million), Dream11 ($150 million), Flipkart ($300 million), Hike Messenger ($150 million), Ola ($500 million) and Swiggy ($500 million).

India's Adani Group inked a deal with East Hope Group, one of China's largest companies, set up manufacturing units in Mundra SEZ, Gujarat to produce solar power generation equipment, chemicals, aluminum and animal feed in Gujarat Mundra SEZ.

China's central bank has bought 1.01 per cent stake in HDFC.

In 2017 Defence minister Rajnath Singh had in the past told the parliament that there was “no embargo” on the import of raw materials from China for the manufacture of protective jackets for the Army. Use of Chinese raw materials put lives of Indian Soldiers are at Risk as the Chinese Materials Find Way to the Indian Army Bulletproof Vests

Jingoism and hyper-nationalism can never provide a solution to the problems. The 'PM Care fund' can accept the donations, open to investment in strategic sector like defence, telecommunication and infrastructure. Forcing citizen's to boycott China.
