Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Apr 2: Kunhi (48), son of Pernu Mugera from Pijinadka House in Kokkada village breathed his last at his home on Wednesday, April 1. His family members claimed that he could not get proper treatment.

Kunhi was ill for the last several days. On Tuesday, he was referred by Kokkada primary health centre to Beltangady taluk hospital for treatment. He did not get suitable treatment there and he was asked to go to Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru. As this hospital has now been transformed into coronavirus centre, he did not get treatment there. He went to a private hospital at Mangaluru but was denied treatment as he did not have money to meet treatment expenses, it is said.

Kunhi was then brought home. He died on Wednesday morning. A medical officer from Kokkada and revenue officials visited his home and collected details about his ill health. The team checked for coronavirus symptoms and recorded that he died of the ailments he was already suffering from.

The locals said that the government should have made arrangements to treat the poor free of cost when the government hospital is turned exclusively for coronavirus patients.
