Udupi: Outgoing batch of NEMS accorded memorable farewell

Udupi, Mar 21: A farewell programme for the outgoing students of 2019-20 of Nirmala English Medium School (NEMS), Brahmavara was recently organized by the students of classes 8 and 9 along with the teachers on Saturday February 29 in the assembly hall.

All the staff members from pre-primary to higher primary and secondary sections were present. The hall was decorated with colourful buntings and posters. The theme of the farewell was ‘Life is a Journey, not a destination’. Each of the class 10 students was welcomed with a rose to the auditorium and as a token of love, a handbook on career guidance and a memento were handed over to the students.

Correspondent Fr Victor Fernandes, school counsellor Fr Arthur, former president of PTA committee Chitturu Prabhakar Acharya, principal Fr Joslie D’Silva, class teacher Kavitha Sanil were on the dais. Nishitha of class 9 gave a brief welcome speech after which there was a floral welcome to the dignitaries on the dais.

In keeping with the tradition of NEMS, the farewell programme began with a solemn prayer service by lighting the lamp, which was conducted by Sr Sanjitha and team. A beautiful song was played highlighting the journey of life. A message regarding life, hope, peace and harmony wherever they go was presented.

Two students of class X, Sugam and Elvisha Lobo were given the chance to express their sentiments and memories during their stay at NEMS. A touching speech was delivered indicative of the mixed emotions of the students during this phase. The emotions were joyful owing to the successful years at this school mixed with a little sadness to bid farewell to the premises, teachers and classmates for their future endeavours. The students of class 10 contributed Rs 22,500 as a token of love and gratitude.

Fr Victor Fernandes in his speech inspired the outgoing students and wished them good luck for their exams and future challenges. He extended a little awakening to the students in terms of future endeavours and was also keen to help them in future interactions as alumni. The former PTA president was quite impressed by the speeches of the students. He highlighted the important points which a student could remember and recall after such a ceremony.

The fun-filled part began with an entertaining programme by the juniours of classes 8 and 9. Enjoyable games were organized to keep up with the spirit of the programme followed by a prize distribution. Gagana of class X was the lucky one of the batch 2020. Students volunteered to be DJ of the day. Many students joined and had fun with the music. They clicked pictures around the school where they had so many memories.

The programme ended with an inspiring speech from the principal, Fr Joslie D’Silva. Preksha Das, a student of class 10 gave the vote of thanks.

The event was coordinated by Irene Pereira and Rama M and anchored by Preksha of class 9 and Nireeksha of class 8.
