Bantwal: Car plunges into pit - Woman loses life, one injured

Bantwal, Feb 25: In an accident which happened at Pujalkatte at around midnight on Monday, February 24, a car plunged into a pit after its driver lost control over the vehicle. A woman, who was returning home after taking part in Mehndi programme, lost her life in this tragic incident.

The victim of the accident was Indira (55) from Karla, Thenka Kajekaru.

Indira was returning after attending the Mehndi function organized at the house of her daughter at Venoor Kashipatna when the accident happened at the road bend at Punjalkatte Daikinakatte.

Indira's husband, Sadanand, an ex-serviceman, was driving the Swift car back to Karla from Kashipatna at midnight when he lost control over the vehicle. After the car jumped into the pit, locals who heard the voice, rushed to the spot and helped the couple trapped inside the car to come out. Even though immediate arrangements were made to admit them into hospital by an ambulance, Indira, who had suffered grievous injuries, breathed her last at the hospital.

Sadanand, who escaped with minor injuries, is being treated in a private hospital at Mangaluru.

Punjalkatte police sub-inspector Soumya, visited the spot and registered a case.
