Mangaluru: Faster than Usain Bolt? Kambala jockey Srinivas runs 100 meters in 9.55 sec

Mangaluru, Feb 14: It is shocking news to everyone who thinks that Usain Bolt is unbeatable. It is true that Usain Bolt has broken the world record over and over again in the 100 meter dash. However, Srinivas, a Kambala Jockey of coastal Karnataka, has reportedly beaten Usain Bolt's record and re-written the record in his name.

Srinivas Gowda has natural six pack abs without going to the gym through sheer hard work. If he gets down to the Kambala field he springs like Cheetah. Now he is well-known in the coastal belt for his unique record. Srinivas Gowda is known as Mijaru Ashwathapura Srinivas Gowda in Kambala sport circle.

Usain Bolt (left) and Srinivas Gowda

Usain Bolt had clocked 9.58 sec in the 100 meter dash. But Srinivas Gowda has reached the same distance in just 9.55 sec on the Kambala track along with the buffaloes. This event took place on February 1 at Aikala in the district. Srinivas Gowda took only 13.62 sec to cover a distance of 142.50 meter. If the same is tallied for 100 meters, it works out to be just 9.55 sec.

It should also be noted that Usain Bolt runs on synthetic track, which helps the runner to run faster as the resistance is less. But in Kambala field, the legs of the runner get submerged every time in the slime. In addition, the Kambala jockey has to hold the rope of the buffaloes in one hand and the stick in the other and also concentrate on the buffaloes and self. So Srinivas Gowda runs under difficult conditions compared to Usain Bolt or any other 100 meter runner on synthetic tracks.

Srinivas Gowda did not take any formal training in this sport but has done this out of sheer passion for the sport. He has bagged the highest number of gold medals in the Kambala sport of this season.

Kambla Jockey Srinivas finish 100 mtrs. in 9.55. sec. True. It is in Kambla field. If he runs in sports track and properly trained he will finish may be around 9.48 or so. Then he will be the supreme. Lets the sports organisation try this and if passed let him permit him to participate in olympics. Let him try and grab the opportunity. Sadhane malthnda sabalnaa nungolige.

Though I'm not trying to under-estimate Srinivas' achievement and demoralize him, please note he is pulled by the buffaloes and you would not deny with me that the buffaloes are faster than Usain Bolt, not Srinivas. If you see the video, it's sheer the buffaloes. If you think Srinivas can run faster than Bolt in that mud without holding the buffaloes, he would definitely run much faster on the synthetic track. Can those who claim Srinivas is faster than Bolt, arrange to check his speed on the track to prove how fast he is?

It is not fair to compare our Kambala champion with an international sprinter. At the moment, let us savour the glorious fete of Srinivas and congratulate him wholeheartedly. This performance itself is extraordinary and the youngster needs to be congratulated. Let there be coordinated efforts to give him necessary training and financial assistance so that he can prove his mettle on a synthetic track too. Who knows, he might be a medal winner for India in the nearest future.

    Wow the thunder bolt.

He is not being dragged by those buffaloes instead he is pushing those beasts to win the race. Otherwise buffaloes cannot run that fast.
Just imagine if he is not pushing those animals he could clock 100 meters in well under 5 secs.

This is the problem with us .. just compare without any proper parameters. The news title should have been "Faster than Usain Bolt without being pulled by buffalo's? Kambala jockey Srinivas runs 100 meters in 9.55 sec with buffalo's" then the article makes sense. No doubt it's a great achievement by Srinivas and it no easy feat to run in a KAMBALA race. But don't compare two different forms of race for the sake of comparison. Comparison without proper parameters often degrades the value of the objects/ person compared to.

this has been discussed time and again if a kambala runner can sprint ? It is not possible because, Kambala runner is runs with the pull of a buffalo ( not questioning his stamina ) but, the technic to run on a turf and behind a buffaloe cannot be compared. Usain Bolt will never be able to run behind a buffaloe and a Kambala runner never in a turf.

First of all hearty congratulations to Srinivas Gowda. Undoubtedly he has the talent. With practice and training, he can surely reach some heights in life.

Whether his speed is better than Usain Bolt, the legendary sprinter, needs to be checked. I hope the local administration recognizes the talent of Srinivas Gowda and grooms him.

But one thing is very clear, this pair of buffaloes are faster than Usain Bolt!!! Not only they are faster than Bolt, they are able to do so along with the weight of the plank and man hanging on to them!!!

Agree - there is type of race, for which a plank is used and its tied to the buffaloes yoke. In such races, the man doesn't have to take steps, he just has to balance himself on the plank.. Here, it's clearly said that his steps are taken on a surface filled with slurry, meaning, no plank is used. In such methods, his energy is equally required to run, else he will be dragged along by the buffaloes.

Why not encourage him to run 100m race on plain track like Usian bolt and record the time?. If he beats Usian bolts speed or even close to that then he should be competing straight in olympics and all international levels. Government should take necessary steps to do this without wasting a second.

I guess its a speed of the bull which carries speed. There is no doubt the bullock holder needs the quick legs, but here I personally feel its the speed of the bullocks .... Why not just take a test to make him run alone on this muddy surface.......

Also wearing shoes and running needs practice than running on bear legs.

Not taking anything away from this man, however isn't the speed due to the pull force of the animals and not only the running ability of the individual? I don't follow the sport so I may be wrong.

Without training , without nutrition foods, without coaches, without facilities , without shoes and without any support this guys achievement is as good or better than of the great Usain Bolt, really appreciate , but his speed is also dependent on the advantage that he derives from the speeding bull which he follows in Kambala track if am not wrong?

however such great balance in a muddy water with that speed is just amazing . Respect Sir

Well, the buffalos do run in the front but he too must keep pace with them. Else, he will be dragged by them, dunked in the slurry of the fields. It's a synchrony, but the efforts got come from him too, to lift his leg from the mud and place ahead of the other. Again, his both hands are not free to balance the wind force - in one hand is their rope, in the other the stick which he must keep in motion.
