Ballari: School bus plunges into gorge - One dies, eight serious

Ballari, Dec 6: A private mini bus carrying the students of a school from Hagaribommanahalli taluk for educational tour tumbled into roadside gorge on Thursday December 5. The incident resulted in the death of a student on the spot while eight others suffered serious injuries. The condition of two of them is said to be critical.

The accident occurred near Hirehadagali in Hoovina Hadagali taluk in the district. The deceased was Kishore Kumar (10), a resident of Kalvi Tanda in Hoovina Hadagali taluk, who was a fourth standard sudent. Akash (10), a fifth standard student from Hampasagara, and Priyanka (13) a seventh standard student from Kalvi Tanda, suffered grave injuries and hence were shifted to Davanagere hospital for advanced treatment. Bus driver, Basayya, ran away after the accident. Six others, who also suffered serious injuries, were admitted into the taluk hospital.

The bus was carrying students of Sewalal higher primary school, Hampasagara, Hagaribommanahalli taluk. At around 1.30 am on Thursday, the private mini bus was carrying the students when the bus driver Basayya, tried to overtake a Tata Ace vehicle. The bus, which was speeding, went out of the driver's control, and tumbled into the roadside gorge.

Headmaster of the school, Veeranagouda Upparagatti, has filed complaint against the driver, blaming him for causing the accident due to recklessness.
