Mangaluru: Vishwa Konkani Puraskar ceremony on Nov 23

Mangaluru, Nov 20: The Vishwa Konkani Puraskar - 2019 award ceremony that is given every year by Vishwa Konkan Kendra, sponsored by T V Mohandas Pai of world renowned Manipal Global Education, will be held on November 23 at T V Ramana Pai Auditorium in city. 

The awards will be distributed by famous Padmashree awardee Dr Ramakanatha Krishnaji Deshpande, Dr Austin D'Souza Prabhu and P Sabitha Sathish Pai Bengaluru. Key note address will be given by the sponsor of the awards, T V Mohandas Pai. The programme will be presided over by Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of Konkani Kendra and Dr P Dayananda Pai, Bengaluru.

'Janavaya' novel written by well-known Konkani writer of Goa Devidasa Kadam is selected for the 'Smt Vimala V Pai World Best Konkani Book award - 2019'. 'Thode Ekanatha', a collection of poems by retired announcer of Mangaluru AIR, Shakunatala R Kini is selected for 'Smt Vimala V Pai World Best Konkani Kavita Kriti Puraskar - 2019'. 

Smt Vimla V Pai World Konkani Jeevan Siddhi Puraskar - 2019 will be conferred on renowned Konkani litterateur and researcher Rocky V Miranda, Mysuru. The Basti Vaman Shenoy World Konkani Samaja Seva Prashasti - 2019 will be awarded to international fame Yoga achiever K Raghavendra Pai of Mysuru in the men's category. Meera Srinivas Shanubogue, social worker from Kumta will receive Basti Vaman Shenoy World Konkani Samaja Seva Puraskar - 2019 for the women's category. 

T V Mohandas Pai has installed a special award in his mother's name called 'Smt Vimala V Pai World Konkani Special Award'. This will be conferred on Vasanthi R Nayak for her service of many years rendered as famous Hindustani classical music artiste. In addition, this award will also be conferred on Suhasa Yashawanta Dalal of Goa, who is renowned for writing articles in Konkani and English newspapers right from the Goa Independence struggle. 

Each of the total seven awards that will be given by World Konkani Kendra will contain Rs one lac, shawl, memento and letter of honour. These awards will be conferred on the respective individuals in the programme that will be held at T V Ramana Pai Auditorium in city on November 23.

    Hearty congratulations to Mrs Shakuntala R Kini for 'Smt Vimala V Pai World Best Konkani Kavita Kriti Puraskar - 2019'. I am extremely lucky (and grateful to you) to be associated with you since 1985 when you sent me an invitation to recite my poems for All India Radio and encouraged me to write more at my young age of 18. You have motivated many young and old konkani and kannada poets. I wish numerous more honours throughout your life.
