Mangaluru City Corporation polls result - Did independents rob Congress of victory?

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 17: The Congress, which is both surprised and bewildered by the crushing defeat in the city corporation council election here, is trying to find out the cause for its debacle. Surprisingly, it has found that one of the reasons which compounded its miseries has been the independent candidates who have eaten away into its electoral base.

The Congress leaders were not prepared for its stunning drubbing this time, although there was expectation of some influence because of dissatisfaction and discontentment within the party over allotment of tickets and some leaders crossing over to the BJP at the last minute. The party has, to its dismay, found that wherever independents were fielded, the BJP candidates won in most of such wards with a slender margin. If the votes polled by the independents were bagged by the Congress, it would have increased its tally by at least ten to 12 more seats.

The constituencies where the Congress faced setback by a margin of a handful of votes happen to be Katipalla, Idya, Boloor Padavu, Kankanady, Kadri, and Krishnapura. In all these constituencies, the independents have cornered some votes. As per the analysis so far, votes for independents have gone based their castes.

The party also found that in some wards, the minorities have this time leaned towards the BJP, which contributed to their defeat. Not appointing observers sufficiently in advance and not taking into account intelligence feedback also contributed to the woes of the Congress.

The party is now studying the causes for its defeat in the corporation election, said district Congress president, Harish Kumar, who agreed that they have found some issues within the party also contributed to the party's poor performance. He said that the leaders would arrive at a concrete idea about the causes for the party's unexpected defeat in the corporation election within two weeks and take steps to address them.

I expected this result.... Because congress does not have the root level workers. Even if they have they are not rightly recognized by the party leaders. Looks like party leaders sidelined party workers as well as leaders do not have statergitical plans.

What logic is this ? So that means independent candidate can contest the election just for the selfishness that congress vote will split ? Also whats the guaranty that independent votes are split votes of congress Why not from BJP ,SDPI,COMMUNIST PARTY .

Always Remember Dakshina Kannada is always for BJP .The power of Hindutwa , MODI WAVE .
We should All know during 2018 Assembly election BJP Won 7 seats out of 8 due to power of Hindutwa and Modi wave and also due to the Anti hindu governance of congress party also due to lose talks by almost all congress leaders .

In 2019 Loksabha Election , People of Dakshina Kannada were Unhappy with BJP Nominating Nalin but still they dint forget their root foundation . Power of Hindutwa and MODI WAVE together destroyed Mithun Rai congress WAVE and Nalin kumar kateel won by more than 2.5 lakhs vote overtaking the margin of Janardhan Poojary who were defeated by margin of 1 lakh vote in 2014 .
That is the power of Hindutwa and Power of MODI .

In 2013 Congress won MCC election and Assembly in mangalore only due to the inner fight in bjp party itself , people were fed up and had no other option for that few dint vote . Few voted for congress for which they repented

Also this time in MCC Election Vote share was less around 59 % Hence congress got 12-13 seats . If the Voting Percentage was somewhere around 85 % than BJP Would have clean sweeped (NO matter if all the other parties combine including Independent )

Hats off to our Legend our DYNAMIC MLA Vedavyas kamath and Bharath Shetty diligent campaigning style and also Blessings of Janardhan Poojary sir Jai MODI.

I know i will get many dislikes for my comment but i dont mind . I Dont care i told the reality of Grounds .

Dear Congies BJP too had rebel candidates in most of the wards and still they managed to win in many places. Mangalore Congies still in 1940's and believe mostly in appeasement politics on the basis of caste, religion etc . On the other hand this time BJP really went with a vision for their respective wards which was focusing more on developments. Hope they all achieve it in next 5 years. Congies should stop blame games about election results now and should concentrate mainly on developing their respective wards. If not their numbers might reduce to single digit in the next MCC elections. Good luck to all the elected representatives.

The main turning point was that the ugly turn of events at the distribution of tickets that took place at Ocean Pearl. Second was the continuous blabbering Jannanna, who was acting as a RSS agent.

Anyway now sit in opposition and let the BJP do the work. Let us see what improvements the saffron team will do. Hope at least pumpwell flyover, nanthoor cirlce issue, big bazaar no foot path issue and other road related issues will be resolved instead of just inaugurations as the present MLA Kamti mamu is doing.

It is not question of independent candidates presence or absence, lose is always.Should be accepted gracefully. It is not like that only one should come to the power and rule. There should be some changes like what has happened in the recently concluded MCC election. It is like a musical chair game. Those who are smart, good in administration, perform effectively, deliver corruption free administration and deliver the goods effectively will the race. Now there is no point in finding reasons for the debacle, blaming others and going for mental calculations. But nobody is ready to accept the defeat and changes happening. There will always be a criticism for each and everything in contrast.Constructive criticism is always good for the developments of the city but destructive criticism will ruin the name and fame of the city.Just watch and see the effectiveness of the changes by sitting in opposition bench and raise your voice wherever they erred. If they don't perform well during their stipulated period, try for the next time by executing your good works especially in meeting and addressing the basic needs, requirements of the residents.

Dear Sir, What makes you think that voters of independents, would have voted to Congress if there were no independents. They might have voted BJP as well or atleast a section of them. in elections such mathematics wont work. Had it worked, BJP would have suffered a humiliating defeat in UP.

It is nothing to relate to independents or dependants. It was just a fight between Janardhan Poojary and his supporters and Siddaramaih and his supporters. The open statement was given by Mr. Poojary during Lok Sabha, Vidhana Sabha and local body elections are the main cause for the losses. The presence of Vijayakumar Shetty and others along with Poojary tilted the balance. Also, Congress and BJP fielded new candidates for election this time. So people selected the party they want and not the person. The trend was the same as the Vidhan Sabha elections.

It is a waste to discuss now. Let BJP do good to the city in their term

This doesn't make any difference, the interesting point now is..... At center it is BJP, at State it is BJP, At MCC it is BJP, so we should be looking fora transformed Manglore city, its infrastructure etc. If they cannot, then they are the most useless bunch of administartors.....

Congress party leaders irrespective of their posts with arrogant behaviour, over confidence and preference to their chellas who walks in every function alongside with the party leader was the main cause for their loose ,
if you guys want people to vote for you people, then first change your attitude towards common people, treat everyone with respect, be simple, stop carrying bunch of jokers along side on every function. you all dont even walk or come alone even in a wedding functions, just like goons and dont be over confidence, even minorities started hatting congress for this attitude.

Your analysis is hundred percent correct and you have hit the nail on the head.

I have even seen a kangresi pudari attending funerals with gunman !! Such a disconnect with common people, such disrespect to a holy place and to the person whose funeral this pudari is attending !!

Such arrogance and show of power has cost kangress party.

Unless the showoff cowboy leaders are thrown out or they change their attitude (I doubt), the kangress is dead, forever.

People watch in disgust and election is the only time they can hit back. Hit back people will, and very hard too.

Really surprised to know that what independents got is otherwise it would have gone to khangress. What is the base of this assumption? Just caste of the independent? Those days r gone no a days ppl vote either for party or for individual proximity of the candidate. Khangress is still in old thinking that vote bank depends on caste/religion basis.
Wake up khangress it is now NEW INDIA
