Tumakuru: Untouchability still practised - Dalit MP denied entry into hamlet

Daijiworld Media Network - Tumakuru (SP)

Tumakuru, Sep 17: A Narayanaswamy, former minister for social welfare and Chitradurga MP, was denied entry into Pemmanahalli Gollarahatti hamlet because he happens to be a dalit. This shameful incident happened on Monday September 16. Pemmanahalli Gollarahatti is situated in Pavagada taluk of Tumakuru district.

Narayanaswamy had accompanied a team of officials from Biocon Ltd Bengaluru and Narayana Hrudayalaya to Pavagada town. The officials and the MP inspected dilapidated school buildings and Rangasamudra school in Pavagada before proceeding to Pemmanahalli Gollarahatti. At the entry to the hamlet, locals, Chikkayya, Nagaraju, Doddayya and some other youngsters and women stopped Narayanaswamy and said that people belonging to Madiga community cannot enter the area.

A Narayanaswamy

The MP peacefully spoke to the villagers and tried to convince them to let go of this evil practice. But the people were stubborn. They put forth demand for drinking water and housing facility in their hamlet but did not allow him to enter the hamlet. Narayanaswamy told the people that 80 percent of the Golla community members had voted for him and that he is committed to improve their standard of living. The MP, who waited there for 45 minutes, had to return. The police who were present, seemed to be helpless. Some BJP leaders tried to drive home the point that untouchability is not permissible but the people of the hamlet remained adamant.

Chinnayya, a local, said that the practice of not allowing Harijans to enter the hamlet has been existent since hundreds of years.

Very sad that untouchability is not only practised, promoted but no action is taken on promoters of untouchability.
We are going 2 steps forward and 4 steps backwards.
Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln and Nelson Mandela sacrificed their lives to remove such social evils. We regard them but still follow what they fought against.
But solace is natures has its own mechanism to regulate and balance. If 1 door is closed many more doors will open in this universe.

    2) You can take Baptism and take Holy communion - - No problem.
    3) Keep your Caste, Rai, Brahmin, Dalit etc., etc.. - No problem.
    4) Take your quota and reservations in your caste. - No problem.
    5) In the senses you are a Hindu or a Muslim - No problem.
However you are practising the faith as preached by Jesus Christ the Holy One.
Your Jobs secure, your caste secure and everything is secure.

Please correct the wrong information you have. Each and Everyone is allowed to the Church, welcomed inside the Church. There is no Dalit Christian. Just Christians and all are welcome. Jesus loves everyone. No one has to be converted to come to Church, it's a place if worship. Church is for all.

If the reformer and poet Basava were alive today, we would call him an activist, or even a radical. Back in the twelfth century, when he spearheaded a movement in Karnataka, this is how he described the plethora of demanding gods who keep common people in their thrall:

    Certain gods
    always stand watch
    at the doors of people.
Some will not go if you ask them to go.
    Worse than dogs, some others.
    What can they give,
    these gods,
who live off the charity of people
O lord of the meeting rivers? — Speaking of Siva

Basava took his critique of the establishment to its logical end. Building on reason, on the dynamic, on the opposition to man-made ritual, priesthood, temples and their gods, Basava issued the most powerful challenge: all men are equal, regardless of caste; and all women are equal to men. When King Bijjala questioned him about the radical inter-caste marriage planned by Basava’s colleagues in the movement, he asked the king, “Are we not all born of the same source, a woman’s womb? No man ever came out of his mother’s ears.”

Basava did not merely mouth platitudes against caste oppression. Just as he ate with the lower castes and welcomed them into his movement, he insinuated himself into the lineage of those considered inferior by the orthodox. Basava may have been born a Brahmin; but he shed the sacred thread, the agrahara culture of the Brahmins, the priests and temple culture. He became a child of butchers, water-carriers, fodder-gatherers. He became a child of the lower castes, of the lowest “untouchables”. This is how he made himself human.

“The caste differences between the privileged and the underprivileged is born out of “religion” whereas the difference between the poor and the rich is born out of labour.”

Basava, Kalburgi. Neither was an atheist; but both believed in, and practiced, a radical form of religion. Basava’s end in exile is shrouded in mystery. Kalburgi’s murder remains an ongoing “case”.

In Mangalore, local Tuluvas are middle class, some are off course rich but em telling in general, but people who have escaped from a particular state are very rich, Ido not have an clear idea how is it possible??? Is it because they say they belong to high caste and they have fair complexion?? Till recently we local were not allowed inside their temple, they speak in different language then us Tuluvas ,,, usually people who come from outside should integrate with locals to have Harmony in society but here it's vice versa.. they have their hospitals, education institute, retail, etc... No doubt they are very clever and active.. but I am wondering how?? I think we in Mangalore are too scared to confront or oppose bullying.. Mr. Rampa was taken as a joke because he was from lower caste but he was a hotelier

It's all inter related, reservation seems unfair but why do we have reservations it's because of this caste system.. people want caste system to continue but reservation to be abolished.. because of this caste system so many people are getting killed in the name of honour killing.. In India there is discrimination in each and everything. Color, caste, religion, economic stature, language, food,.. temples feed upper caste people in a separate room they have tables and chairs to sit .. rest sit in floor..
It's hard to digest, u may be a scholar but when u come to ur home town this is the sight and experience u have to go through..
Moreover caste were based on profession but now no one is going through the profession based on their caste for example if am a astronaut which caste will i be placed in? This caste system looks baseless, why should some one be insulted in this manner.. people who think they are Superior and they should be given special status then go and live in a different planet than creating nuisance here
Btw dear MP do not work for these garbage mind set people let them rot in hell

Certainly there are no restrictions in any of the states.
Keralites are very specific to break religious differences among human beings.
So do not listen to rumours but to the truth.
    Truth comes after verification's.
