Chennai, Jan 15: Director Jai Amar Singh’s upcoming comedy-driven family drama The Mummy Returns, starring actor Krishna in the lead role, was officially launched with a traditional pooja ceremony held in Chennai on Wednesday.
The film is being produced by P J Kishore under the banner Pepin de Raisin Productions. The inaugural event witnessed the presence of the entire cast and crew, along with several well-known personalities from the Tamil film fraternity, signalling an auspicious start to the project.
Noted filmmakers Vishnuvardhan and I. Ahmed attended the ceremony and extended their warm wishes to the team, lending added prominence to the launch.

According to sources associated with the production, The Mummy Returns tells the story of a devoted son who attempts to bring his mother back to health after she wakes up from a prolonged coma. In a heartfelt yet humorous effort to aid her recovery, he recreates the world of the 1990s — the time period in which she last lived consciously — with the help of his friends. The confusion, comedy and unexpected situations that unfold during this process form the crux of the narrative.
Director Jai Amar Singh is said to be crafting the film as a complete family entertainer, blending emotional depth with light-hearted humour and situational comedy.
Alongside Krishna, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Devadarshini, Swathi Muppala, Kinsley, Lollu Sabha Maaran, Bjorn and Deepa in key roles.
The production team plans to complete the shoot in two schedules, with filming locations set in and around Chennai.
Sharing his thoughts on the project, Jai Amar Singh said that after completing his film studies in London, he began his career by assisting director I. Ahmed on Endrendrum Punnagai. Observing that action-heavy films currently dominate the big screen, he believes audiences are craving clean, comedy-centric entertainers. Driven by his personal fondness for humour-based cinema, he conceived The Mummy Returns as a full-length comedy film with strong emotional undertones.
While laughter forms the film’s backbone, the director emphasised that at its core, the story revolves around a son’s emotional journey to save his mother, presented in a way that is both touching and highly entertaining.
The film’s music will be composed by Sam C S, with editing handled by Manikandan Balaji. Cinematography duties have been entrusted to Karthik Subramanian.
