Bengaluru, Aug 26: In connection with an incident in which a man had fed poison to his wife and then hanged himself in a suicide pact, the police have recovered a death note left behind by the couple. The couple revealed in the death note that they had decided to die together as their son and daughter-in-law were not looking after them well.

The couple has been identified as Krishnamurthy, retired employee of Bharat Electronics Ltd, and his wife Swarna Murthy. The two, residents of fourth phase of Girinagar here, ended their lives on Saturday August 24 afternoon. The couple said that their son Manunath, a software engineer by profession, and daughter-in-law Sneha, were not properly taking care of them. The incident had come to light when the couple came back home at 9 pm on Saturday.

The couple lived with son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. The younger couple were software engineers, and left home at 8 am every day and came back at 9 pm. Sneha used to leave her son at the residence of her parents nearby when going to office. Swarna had fallen ill since that last 18 months and was bedridden. Krishnamurthy alone had to care for her and frustrated by the ordeal, Krishnamurthy had also entered into heated arguments with his son on this issue recently. Thereafter, Manunath had hired a nurse to take care of his mother, but it is said that she was not good enough.

Unable to bear with the agony of having been neglected, Krishnamurthy fed poison to his wife, before consuming it himself and then hanged himself in a room of the house.

Girinagar police said that they have registered case of abetment to suicide under section 306 of Indian Penal Code against Manjunath and his wife. They said further legal action would be taken.

The police said that a case has been registered in this connection and investigation is under way.

The police allowed the son to perform the last rites of the aged couple and then went ahead with legal procedures.
