Trump likely to ending birthright citizenship

Washington, Aug 22 (IANS): US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that his administration is seriously considering an executive order to end birthright citizenship.

"We're looking at that very seriously," Trump told reporters when leaving the White House for the US state of Kentucky, the Xinhua news agency reported.

"Birthright citizenship, where you have a baby on our land - walk over the border, have a baby, congratulations, the baby's now a US citizen," said the President. "It's, frankly, ridiculous."

Trump promised ending the birthright citizenship during his 2016 presidential campaign and once revived the idea last year, according to a report of The Hill.

Earlier Wednesday, acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan unveiled new policies which will allow the government to detain families crossing the US-Mexico border longer than before. If the new rule survives court challenges, the policy change could permit authorities to detain families through the duration of their immigration proceedings.

The US federal government has sought various ways to curb illegal and legal immigration since Trump was sworn in January 2017.

This is a very good decision by Trump. As most of the people pay a lot of money to enter US & Canada and after childbirth tries to be a resident dependant. Even the middle east does not allow such things, everyone who is an employed resident has to have a passport from their original country and no local passport is issued. Trump will really change the world and should have a second term. His talk of involving regional players in Afghanistan is also more relevant as everyone looks US to fight a war and others only fight a proxy war.

Good move by Trump. Because many of the newly married Indian couples on deputation to US plan pregnancies so that the children are born in US and then they come back few years later and boast about their children having American passports!!!
