Mumbai, Jul 17: Seasoned American diplomat Yuriy R Fedkiw has assumed charge as the new United States Consul General in Mumbai, the US Consulate announced. He officially took over the post on July 7.
Before his appointment to Mumbai, Fedkiw served in Bern, Switzerland, as Counsellor for Political-Economic Affairs and also held the role of Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, overseeing diplomatic relations with Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
During his diplomatic career, Fedkiw has served in several key postings, including Ukraine, Poland, Iraq, Slovenia and Japan, where he handled political, economic, commercial, security, law enforcement, non-proliferation, science and technology matters.

In 2021, he played a key role in establishing the Afghanistan Affairs Unit in Qatar, where he engaged with the Taliban on issues related to human rights, humanitarian assistance and regional security. His earlier assignments also include serving as Consul General in Lahore, Pakistan, Principal Officer in Fukuoka, Japan, and Consul in Chengdu, China.
Prior to joining the US Foreign Service, Fedkiw worked with a local city government in southwestern Japan. He holds two Master's degrees in International Affairs and a Bachelor's degree in East Asian Studies.
According to the US Consulate, Fedkiw looks forward to working closely with regional leaders and stakeholders in western India to promote American economic interests, strengthen strategic security partnerships and further enhance bilateral cooperation between India and the United States.
