Mangaluru: ‘Expert Swara Raaga Sudha’ concert by Pt Venkatesh Kumar held

Mangaluru, Jul 20: The legendary Hindustani classical vocalist Padmashree Pandit M Venkatesh Kumar enthralled the students through his trademark husky, vibrant classical singing style. His immaculate and divine vocal concert was a part of ‘Swara Raaga Sudha – 2019’, an Indian classical music eve organised by Expert PU College, Valachil.

He was accompanied by Prof Narendra L Nayak, a B high grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan on the Harmonium; and Keshav Joshi, B high graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan on the tabla. Jayateertha and Gangadhar provided support on the tanpura. Shreedutt Prabhu on the Pakhawaj and Dhanashree Prabhu on the Taal.

In his two hour long concert, Pandit Venkatesh Kumar presented several bandishes and bhajans in different raags. He even sang vachanas in Kannada and encouraged the students to sing along with him. After the concert, Pandit Venkateshkumarji interacted with students.

Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson, Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation felicitated the artistes by presenting bouquets to them.

Ankush N Nayk, IT director; Deepika A Nayak; Ustad Rafique Khan, trustee; Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal graced the programme.

Nidhi Shetty, general secretary of student parliament compered the programme.
