Udupi: Police crack theft case - Arrest two, recover items worth Rs 1.7 lac

Udupi, Jul 20: The city police succeeded in arresting two persons who were allegedly involved with theft of gold ornaments and cash from a house in the city on July 16. The arrests were made on Friday, July 19, from Kukkikatte here and ornaments worth Rs 1,69,800 were recovered.

The arrested persons happen to be Muhammed Farooq (18), who is from Hosanagara in Shivamogga district, currently put up in the house of a relative at Indiranagar here, and Afzal (19), who also is from Indiranagar. Items worth Rs 1,69,800 including 66.850 grams of gold ornaments and three mobile phones worth Rs 4,800 were seized from their possession.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of the station house officer of the town station, Ananthapadmanabha, with the participation of assistant sub-inspector, Achutha of district police office and Gopalakrishna Jogi from the town station, apart from other staff.
