Panaji: Absconding rape accused apprehended from Bengaluru

Panaji, Jul 16: The Margao police, on Monday arrested Ramachandra Yellappa in Bengaluru, who has been absconding after he escaped from custody last month. The accused was under trail for the alleged rape of a 48-year-old British woman at Palolem, in December 2018.

As per TOI report, South Goa SP Arvind Gawas said a team led by PI Tushar Lotlikar was returning with him to Goa for further procedures. Yellappa escaped from the south Goa sessions court by bending the grills of the ventilator of a toilet.

The two police officers, Rama Patel and Ramdas Gawas, who escorted Yallappa had been suspended following the incident.
