Mangaluru, Jun 12: The meteorological department has predicted that the depression in atmospheric pressure created near Lakshadweep Islands will delay the arrival of monsoon in Karnataka coast. It also said that the chances of the coast getting normal rainfall during this month are remote. 

In normal course, the monsoon which appeared in Kerala coast on Sunday should have entered Karnataka within a couple of days, resulting in heavy rainfall. But because of the cyclone, monsoon has become a little weak and hence will reach here on June 12 or 13, the department said. Once the monsoon reaches here, there will be good rain for two   to three days. The department also said that there is possibility of gusty wind in the coastal districts today. 

Dakshina Kannada district started receiving rain on account of drop in atmospheric pressure since Tuesday. The sea turned tumultuous. Therefore the lifeguards have been kept on high alert and tourists have been asked to stay clear of the sea. The city experienced rainfall with intermittent gaps. Almost all the taluks in the twin-districts received good rainfall. A few areas also experienced thunder and lightning. 

Sea erosion has been posing threat to over 40 houses in Ullal and Someshwar Uchila where over ten houses have suffered partial damages. Over 50 trees were uprooted by huge waves. Assistant commissioner, Ravichandra Nayak, Ullal municipal commissioner, Srinivas Murthy, tahsildar,Gurprasad etc visited the spot where the situation is grave and examined the loss. As sea water is flowing into the main drain at Chitrapur, water is getting diverted towards the city. Low-lying areas near the sea are facing the danger of getting inundated in artificial floods. 

A pregnant cow belonging to Kambaladadda Shivappa Poojary, resident of Anantadi, Vittal, died after lighting struck. 

Minister, U T Khader, and MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, would be visiting the areas affected by sea erosion in Ullal and Uchila on Wednesday June 12.
