Lok Sabha election update: Local, state, national trends and results

Daijiworld Media Network

New Delhi, May 23: The Lok Sabha elections spanning seven phases for over a month ended on Thursday May 23 with the ruling BJP-led NDA coalition scoring a resounding victory, practically trouncing all the opposition parties in its march to form the government once again.

Narendra Modi is all set for a second term as the Prime Minister. He also won Varanasi by a margin of over 3 lac votes. For the Congress though, it was a bad day at work, with the party president Rahul Gandhi losing Amethi and winning Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi's loss broke the 39-year-old Congress ties with Amethi. The BJP also made inroads into Mamata Banerjee's West Bengal, and saw an outstanding performance in Karnataka where Congress-JD(S) coalition is presently in power.

Here are the overall results of the Lok Sabha elections:

how can one predict before elections. where are the 20 lac evm boxes??? why VVPAT not matched with EVM giving excuse of time and manpower, how was exit poll matched with elections??? we common people what is the use of voting if it is fake and cheating, democracy is itself at stake. many videos on social media which prove EVM malfunctioning.. It is better to bring ballot paper. also the opposition should do their homework and find out who is funding for elections from abroad especially NRIs. if these NRIs are confident of modi why they are going from jobs and business abroad????why mximum youth migrated to western countries last few years if they were confident of achhe din????

Congratulations to BJP! Now it can go forward with any legislation it wants n=unless the Opp. (esp. Congress) gheraos it as it had done in the last Lok Sabha. Sad to note that in the nearly 2/3rds majority minority Christians have not had any place in the Lok Sabha from Karnataka, perhaps from other States as well, and no Congressman from DK or UK, even our beloved Moily.

    Mohan
Don't bring caste /religion here. No Christian from Karnataka because no party gave tkt to them. More over it is as simple as that no popular leader from the community you said. But BJP gave tkt to Christians in NE and they have won the seats. Sonia is there to represent Christians. From Andhra YSR C party is lead by a Christian and there may be many Christian members of Parliament /Assembly.
Regarding khangress representation from DK /UDUPI /UK it is the fate of khangress who have lost due to their double standard towards Hindu /OBC/Minorities

Thank you Roshan for throwing some light on this. I had no intention of bringing caste or religion into the picture, but was just making an observation.
Christians lost a foothold in 1950 when a "reservation" was not demanded at the Constituent Assembly, which Anglo-Indians got, and now they seem to be shut out not just from the Lok Sabha but from public and professional service/education (mainly medical, engineering), and have to take their chances on the basis of their merit for whatever is left after the SC/ST/OBC have had their fill.

I hope atleast with this decimation Rahul acknowledges that he is NOT the person to lead Congress unless he wishes to see Congress disappearing from Indian politics... He doesn't simply have the charisma of a mass leader and him continuing with his role would be great injustice to the great congress leaders of the past. His continuity will only help BJP easily win again in the future continue with their propaganda of hijacking all public institutions and changing the secular facet of India... Rahul continuing as the president of congress if equally dangerous as Modi continuing as the PM of India... One fails the democracy intentionally and other fails the democracy due his inability to win elections or even to build a strong opposition...The coming five years will be interesting and probably equally scary..

Losing elections one by one is not because of Rahul, but the Congress Party's election strategy itself is the responsible.

When India with Modi they should have understood the people mindset and made a strategy to turn it against him would have won the election for Congress today. Instead they used grand old party’s trademark strategy “Divide and Rule” which severely affected the results.

So, I believe instead of finding a leader, Congress should look for a brilliant strategist like Amit Shah.

Add his sister Priyanka Vadra too for failing to woo electorate. Guess, Rahul's threat to undue Modi failed to win the hearts of people.

Before any election, there has always been a stage managed mega events like demonitisation, Surgical strike in the past, Midnight session in Parliment for the Totally flawed GST and now the Bagalkot isuue. Any country will go to the depths of such a massacre that took place of about 50 CRPF jawans and till todate we have no clue who has actually done it and have any people been booked for mass murder of these brave CRPF Jawans. Instead Bagalkot was used to politisise this tragedy and reap political gains.

We had a PM who was 24x7 busy in election duties and left the governance of the country in auto pilot mode with the result that the economy is in shambles, poor people are in dire distress, farmers are desperate jobs are scanty for the youth. We are all in for very difficult times with total uncertainity as considerable overdraft has been taken from RBI, Banks are in shambles,

With hte bogie oa minority appeasment, the BJP has instead indulged in overdose of Majority appeasment and caused divisions in our great country.

    God save our country

    Mr Antony,
For the purpose of saving our country from clutches of biased rules as highlighted in the manifesto of your lovely party God has defeated your party so badly.
Why cant you people not looking into these type of mindset of your party leaders,
Removing apsa in J&K means what your party wants to indirectly kill our army from stone felters?
72000/annum to poor means what? One no need to work just get govt allowance and spend lazy life?
These type of rules will no more brings vote my dear, just know about these and say THANKS GOD, OUR COUNTRY SAVED. OUR MILITARY SAVED,

4 main reasons for the landslide victory of BJP.
    1) Modi's image as a strong and hardworking honest leader. In comparison none of the opposition leaders can even come close to him.
    2) Organisation of BJP workers at the grassroot level who worked tirelessly and selflessly round the clock in the last few months. Credit should also go to these workers.

    3) Balakot airstrikes and projection of Pakistan as enemy and Modi as leader who has guts to go inside and destroy Pakistan.

    4) Polarisation of society as Hindus and muslims. Because of the minority appeasement policies of Congress and Hindutva policies BJP , Hindus are now feeling that only BJP can save Hinduism in India. This is a very important reason.
