Byndoor: Illegal entry, attack on family at Kirimanjeshwar - two arrested

Byndoor, May 21: In connection with the attack launched on the members of a family at Gadhinagar colony, Gangebail in Kirimanjeshwar village near here with deadly weapons on the night of May 18, which had left five persons injured, the police have succeeded in arresting two of the accused on Monday May 20 from Uppunda village. In the said savagely attack in the backdrop of minor skirmishes between the two families, a woman was left seriously injured.

The arrested accused have been identified as Naveenchandra Uppunda and his wife, Shobha. They have been remanded to judicial custody till June 3. The police said they are searching for the other accused who are at large.

When Sharada Devadiga from Gangebail Gandhinagar Colony was returning with her children in an auto rickshaw after attending the Kirimanjeshwar annual fair, the three-wheeler had brushed against the culvert of a house belonging to Kuppu Kharvi. It is said that Kuppu Kharvi's daughter, Shobha, had got angry at this and she had used abusive words against those in the auto rickshaw besides hitting them with her hands.

Sharada Devadiga filed complaint in Byndoor police station relating to this incident. After returning home, the family was having dinner when Kuppu Kharvi's children, Shobha, Damodar, Ratnakar, Satish and his son-in-law, Naveenchandra Uppunda, gatecrashed into their house with cutlass, sword, rod, cudgel etc in their hands. When Shobha attacked Sharada Devadiga with a sharp weapon, questioning her for filing police complaint, she suffered injuries in her ear and neck. Another accused, Sathish, hit her with a rod. When Susheela, elder sister of Sharada, came to Sharada's rescue, Naveenchandra attacked her with his cudgel. Daughter, Monisha, raised an alarm at which elder sister Usha, living in the neigbourhood, her daughter, Sharada, and son-in-law, Ganesh rushed to help them. They too were attacked by Damodar, Ratnakar, and Shivaram with cudgels, it is said.

Sharada Devadiga (32), whose nature of injuries is critical, is being treated at Manipal hospital while the others have been admitted into a private hospital at Koteshwar. The accused face murder attempt case filed in Byndoor police station.
