Mangaluru: Rama-Lakshmana Jodukare Kambala inaugurated at Goldfinch City

Mangaluru, Jan 13: The second edition of traditional Rama - Lakshmana Jodukare Kambala was inaugurated by president of Sri Brahma Baidharkala Garadi temple, K Chittaranjan at Gold finch city near here on Sunday, January 13, under the aegis of Capt Brijesh Chowta.

Addressing the gathering, president of Sri Brahma Baidharkala Garadi temple, K Chittaranjan said,"The second edition of Rama-Lakshamana Jodukare Kambala is organized under the aegis of Capt Brijesh Chowta. Today many pairs have come to take part in this Kambala from many regions and all Kambala enthusiasts are excited about this traditional sport being conducted in the city. I wish all the best for Capt Brijesh Chowta. Let this event may be conducted smoothly without any interruption."

Former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said,"Kambala is our traditional sport which was started by agriculturists and farmers during olden days as a village sport. Now it has grown to great heights and recognized internationally. In coastal belt Kambala sport has gain its popularity. But in recent years Kambala was dragged in to the boundary of law and we have fought back hard within the boundary of the law and gained success. Today under the aegis of Brijesh Chowta, Rama-Lakshmana jodukare Kambala is set to entertain the Kambala enthusiasts in the city."

Over 100 pairs will take part in the 100 metre track at slushy field and ready for a run. Kambala will be held in six categories such as Negilu (Junior) section, Hagga (junior) section, Negilu (senior) section, Hagga (senior) section, Kane Halage and Adda Halage.

The winners of Kane Halage, Hagga and Negilu (senior) will be awarded with two sovereign and runner-up will be awarded with one sovereign of gold, while winners of Adda Halage, Hagga, Negilu (junior) section will be awarded with one sovereign of gold and the runner-up will be awarded with half sovereign of gold.

The guests for formal function in the evening will be managing director of MRG group, K Prakash Shetty, former chief minister B S Yedyurappa, union minister D V Sadananda Gowda, district-in-charge minister U T Khader, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Udupi MP Shobha Karandhlaje, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Sanjeev Matandoor, Rajesh Naik, S Angara, Dr Bharath Y Shetty, Harish Poonja and others.

Prize distribution ceremony will be held on January 14, which will be presided by zilla panchayat President Kasturi Panja. Main judges for the event will be retired principal of Jaina PU College Moodabidri, K Gunapaala Kadamba and general secretary, district Kambala committee, Rajeev Shetty Yedthoor.

General secretary of Mangaluru Kambala Samithi Sujith Prathap welcomed the gathering.
