Kasargod, Oct 1: Excise and Customs officials in a quick operation here, confiscated hawala cash worth Rs 1.2 crore and 1.5 kg gold and arrested two suspects in this regard on Monday, October 1.

The arrested have been identified as Talengere resident Bashir (60) and Maharashtra Sangli resident Ramachandra Patil (27).

Excise and Customs sleuths in Kasargod and Kannur, on receiving definite information, intercepted a car heading to Kasargod from Mangaluru. On checking the vehicle, they found Rs 1.2 crore cash in it. The cash was hidden inside a hole made in the seat of the car. The officials conducted further raids on a rented house on Kote road, Kasargod on the basis of information obtained from Basheer and confiscated 1.5 kg gold found there. Ramachandra Patil who was in the house was arrested.

Excise and Customs officials had received clues three days ago and they had kept an eye on the car. Basheer, while questioning reportedly said that a person named Ravi in Mangaluru had asked to take the car to Kasargod and also that he did not know that there was cash in it.

According to officials, they have retrieved information from the arrested that the gang operates with Mumbai as the centre. Therefore, investigation is extended to Mumbai. The officials said that more details will be available if the person who sent the money is nabbed. It is suspected that Ravi has fled to Mumbai. Excise and Customs officials are looking into the issue.

Rs.46000 crores accumulated from the day dhirubhai ambani started to dine with late indira gandhi. Not happened from last four and half years. Congress itself is backbone behind growth of reliance. Given boost previous to brand ONLY VIMAL after dirubhai's brother son. How a small trader from kalbadevi become all time multi millionaire.
    Without godfather behind never succeed.

Jossey please read other newspapers too. Anil Ambani recently sold part of his telecommunications assets and has reduced his liability by nearly 25000 crores. Second what is wrong if Anil Ambani starts one more industry in collaboration with Raffle, it is more job opportunities in private sector for Indian nationals. HAL can survive by upgrading their own resources, increasingand modernising their present output.

When compares to this amount,I think it is not a big amount. When officials do a sudden raid in whole kasargod,am sure ,there will be lot of money and gold hidden there. We hear always people from this area are caught with gold, foreign currency etc.Now wait and see which big fish will be in net (if not corruption takes upper hand). Are they print this money there? or exchange money?

Rita is right. With the help of military, ED and IT department should conduct a joint operation on entire Kasargod for illegal money in the interest of internal national security. India's economy is getting weaker due to unaccounted money. Half of the Mangalore has been brought by the people from Kasaragod by paying premium price for the land. Fortunately, Udipi has built a firewall for them since long.
