Kundapur, Sep 25: “We have been urging the minister of cooperative societies to make sure that all the people get the benefit of loan waiver. It would be better if the government gives the amount of loans on time without using the money from deposits. Non receipt of the amount by primary cooperative societies promptly will cause setback. Government should pay simple interest on the loan amount,” said Dakshina Kannada district central cooperative bank president Dr M N Rajendra Kumar.

He was speaking after presiding over the programme of shifting South Canara District Central Co-Operative (SCDCC) Bank branch to a new premise on September 24. “It was asked earlier to use deposits in cooperative societies for loan waiver. We have brought to the notice of the government that it is not fair. Similarly there should be changes in the government circular that only one person is entitled for loan waiver and those in government jobs will not get the benefit. It will not cause huge burden. The amount will increase from Rs two to three crore. It will make all to get the facility of loan waiver,” he said.

“Cooperative societies in undivided Dakshina Kannada district are growing fast using technology, new buildings and air conditioners. They will grow still faster when they serve as per the needs of customers. Only cooperative societies lend loans to farmers easily. Kundapur branch of the bank which received deposits of Rs 84 crore last year has collected deposits of Rs 100 crore this year. It already has 105 branches. Its 106th branch will also be opened in Kundapur,” he said.

Vidhana Parishad opposition party leader Kota Srinivasa Poojary who lit the lamp said that the bank with 105 branches has reached the peak of success.” The projects of disciplined management and the far sight of Dr Rajendra Kumar are amazing,” he said.
