Mangaluru: Govt should set up Christian Development Board soon– MLC Ivan D'Souza

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Jul 21: Congress leader Ivan D’Souza has requested the chief minister to speed up procedures related to setting up a new Christian Development Board as well as t0 increase the grant, which is allocated in the recent budget, from Rs 200 crore to Rs 300 crore.

Addressing the media on Saturday, July 21, he said, “Chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has already given the permission for the new Christian Developmental Board. I hope it will become a reality very soon. Both Congress and JD(S) had mentioned about new Board for Christians in their election manifestos. It is also included in the coalition government’s common programmes. We are requesting the CM to accelerate the procedures,"

“Total 5,981 students have received loans worth Rs 20.46 crore from minority department for higher studies. But governments failed to create employment opportunities for the youth, nor set-up an encouraging entrepreneurial atmosphere. Now the students who completed their studies are finding it difficult to reimburse the loans. So government should waive their loans and stop sending the notices for recovery,” he said.

Further giving information on 'Mane Malige Yojane ' he said, "Already 850 have applied online for this scheme. It is scheme for those who went to jail with various cases and were given clean chit by court. Same time, people who lost their homes in communal violence incidents and natural disasters are also eligible for this scheme. In this scheme an individual can get Rs 10 lac for a home and business set-up. Government gives 50% subsidy on this loan and balance Rs 5 lac should be paid by the borrower with an interest of 3 %. So it is my request to people to avail the benefits of this scheme and apply before August 31,” concluded.

Instead of development boards for different castes and religions, he should have talked about a General Board for the Development of BPL people, irrespective of caste and creed; an authority that will bring together and work for the betterment of the needy and the downtrodden.

The state should provide conditions for the upliftment of all citizens in an equal manner and not look at them through prisms of caste, colour, religion and creed!

India is over 70 years old and there is no more need to support the so-called religious minorities and the so-branded castes and tribes. We want freedom from these narrow-minded concepts now. Every Indian is equal and should have equal opportunities and be treated equally before the law. No Indian needs to be given a special category status.

The only Indians who are in the “minority” are the “law-abiding “ ones and they are the ones who need to be protected!

No loans should be waived off for anybody. These loans are “gifted” by politicians from the taxes I pay but they act as if they are gifting from their pocket! I shall choose the charity I want to support I do not want the politicians to be deciding that for me.

I want Mr.Ivan to hold a press conference and publicise what his duties and responsibilities as a MLC are and how much he is getting paid for it . I want to assess how well he is doing the job he is paid for.

I would go further to suggest to him to vacate his MLC post and give it to one of the “ students who completed their studies but are finding it difficult to reimburse the loans”. This way at least one “minority” student will have a job for 5 years and also earn pension for life after the MLC term. Mr .Ivan( the lawyer)should also employ at least 5 of these “ students who completed their studies but are finding it difficult to reimburse the loans” and pay them handsomely from his earnings as a lawyer so that they can repay the loans and also live their life comfortably.

Ivan is absolutely right in asking for Christian Development Board. I will support him. if not mistaken, about 8 years back, this was first initiated by BJP under Yeddirappa govt. BJP allocated separate funds for Christians community. Now the requirement is separate board for Christians in the State.

I feel, Christians by and large, do not need any grant!
They are not only self reliant but also capable of serving the needy of downtrodden few in their community as well as outside the community!
Most of them are educated and doing quite well if not very rich!

You might be a well to do Christian. The Christian in the coastal belt of Karnataka might be better off, due to education, Gulf earnings. But majority of the non urban Christians are very poor. Some are doing even menial jobs for the sake of survival.

Government money and funds are not for any specific religious community but for all. Every community has poor and destitute citizens and each one of them requires assistance and not just Christians. Government money should go there. Just because Yeddy did it to get votes does not make it right. What is driving our country backwards is this reservations, special allocations etc etc. All reservations, assistance, allocations should only be based on economic factors and not caste or religion. Every citizen is equal not matter his faith caste or creed.

Yes, you are right. Please get the Centre and State Governments to abolish all kind of Caste / Creed based priority, Reservations in all government jobs etc., & also the freebees that are being offered for political gains. Introduce a system that only counts on individual merits / economic condition of the people. Once, this is done then everything will fall in place.

Either Govt. should work out a plan, all reservation or separate board based on caste, creed , religion all have been abolished and all citizens are equal. That is fair.

It was earlier BJP govt. which has acted wisely by allocating funds to different groups not as collective, under one umbrella.

Typical Congi culture of 'trying to stay alive'. All the fading Congi candidates now have one gimmick to be in news. Last week we had Ramanath Rai call a press conference. The week prior to that , we had JR Lobo, Now we have Ivan this week. This will go on till the public is fed up and the 'leaders' fade into oblivion.

Instead of asking money from the government, work within the community and encourage youngsters to take up government and public service, serve in the armed forces and to be good leaders. That will win you more laurels than this cheap stunt. The Christian community does not need this money, it the poor and the needy who need it.

Why do Christians need a development board and money from the government? This is utter nonsense. Aid should be given to all under privileged irrespective of caste or religion. It is sops like these which cause discontent and divisions in society. The responsibility of the government is towards all its citizens and not to a select few.

All Christians are not well to do like you and few others in our Coastal belt because of good educational background and opportunities in middle eastern states that contributed to the economic growth of the community. There are hundreds and thousands of Christians very much in need of help in many parts of our state, especially in villages of northern districts, Malnadu region.

Christians are working hard and making their living. What is required for Christians in india is govt jobs without descriminations in all sectors without bias based on qualifications like anyone else. I am sure Christians will Excell in providing transparent services to every citizens of india. Currently most of the youth migrat like me to others nations due to lack of job opportunities by indian govt even though we are qualified to get one. I find it little biased from govt based on religion of not provide military and other govt jobs to Christians. Regardsless of that we Christians are doing well and helping everyone with our best capacity. That is why we are Christians.

Why Govt wants to have a separate board for each cast?, when govt has a separate board for minorities what is the rational behind such boards based on religion?
Govt itself is working on communal basis and how we as Indian can face this?
If Govt goes on waiver of loans of student tomorrow merchants will say I took loan for business but it is not working so waive my loan too
If any party announces loan waiver let the party pay from its fund and not from our tax paid (hard earned), money
