Mangaluru, Jul 20: The final year students of the department of Journalism of St Aloysius College (autonomous) will on Sunday July 22 from 4 pm onwards organise a healthy food fest ‘Swaadhishta’ on the 4th floor of City Centre Mall.
The event will feature an assortment of healthy food items on sale such as nutritional ladoos, sandwiches, date balls, guava juice, fruit salad and the likes.
All proceeds of the day will be donated to charity via the Center for Social Concern of St Aloysius Institutions.
The PR event is an earnest attempt at spreading awareness about eating healthy amongst the general public of the city. It will also aim to break the misconception that ‘healthy can’t be tasty’. Alongside the food items, recipes will also be displayed in an effort to explain to the public how it is not a hard task to eat and live a healthy lifestyle.
About St Aloysius College
St Aloysius College is a one hundred and thirty eight year old institution that has trained thousands of men and women in various fields and presented them to the nation. Named after St Aloysius Gonzaga and founded by the Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society, the college aims to create men and women for and with others by reinforcing the motto ‘Lucet et Ardet’, which means ‘Shine to Enkindle’. The college became autonomous in 2007 and has been making rapid progress in all fields by introducing innovative courses and regularly updating teaching methodology. The college also boasts of an Olympic-standard swimming pool, inaugurated in 2017.
About the department of Journalism
The department of Journalism of St Aloysius College was established in 1997. It aims to make students adept at film making, newspaper making, radio programmes and television bulletins which help them learn allied subjects like writing for media, media management, communication etc in a better way. It recognizes media as a potent weapon which can be used to fuel the growth and all-round development of society, if wielded correctly. In that regard, the department undertakes various initiatives to groom its students and make them ethically and morally abiding journalists and media persons.
About the Centre for Social Concern
In order to create a sense of social responsibility amongst students, St Aloysius Institutions has embarked on an innovative centre to address social issues. The Centre for social concern, active for the last eight years, has taken leaps and bounds in this regard and has been actively working for and with the marginalized community, to create awareness and development. It organizes various activities and programmes in eight communities and the student body, catalyze social change. It also encourages volunteers to work with the needy. The Centre has identified and adopted villages in Karnataka and is engaged in providing necessary aid to them.
