Udupi: SELCO and BVT sign MoU to establish training centre in Manipal

Udupi, Jun 11: SELCO Foundation, an organization deploying clean energy solution for alleviating poverty in rural areas, in partnership with Bharatiya Vikas Trust (BVT) plans to establish a world class training centre in Manipal. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in this regard on Monday, June 11.

Speaking about the future plans to develop the institution Harish Hande, CEO SELCO Foundation said, “India has signed international solar alliance. In this regard, we are planning to build an international level training and research center herein BVT campus, Manipal. In next couple of years, SELCO Foundation will invest at least Rs 1 to 2 crore in developing the infrastructure to make it happen. In this institute, actual models will be demonstrated which SELCO Foundation has installed in various parts of the country.



“We in association with BVT have planned to bring in new useful innovations. Through solar, not only lighting systems can work, but more than that. We will build a model labour theatre here which will be operated by using solar energy. We have already trained 12 members from the North-East region here. In the North-East region, we have established rice mills completely functioning on solar energy. We have plans of creating a mini India here in Manipal.

“Students of all ages from kindergarten to students pursuing Phd are welcome to utilize the resources and services to enhance their knowledge. Already, the institution has received 150 applications from all over the world. The existing training courses provided by BVT will also continue,” he said.

Speaking about the MoU T A Pai, trustee of BVT said, “We are happy to extend utmost support to SELCO in building this institution. Additional space if needed will be provided by us. Our aim is to provide employment to the unemployed youths through electricity.”
