Opposition raises EVM tampering claims in Kairana, Noorpur

Lucknow, May 28 (PTI): Even as the polling for the high-stakes by-elections to Kairana and Noorpur assembly constituencies is underway, the opposition has raised concerns about the reported malfunctioning of voting machines in some areas.

"Upchunav mein jagah jagah se EVM kharab hone ki khabrein aa rahi hain, lekin phir bhi apne matadhikar ke liye zaroor jayen aur apna kartavya nibhayan," Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on Twitter.

It loosely translates to "getting reports of problems in EVMs in the by-election, but still voters should go out and vote".

SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said 140 EVMs were tampered with in Noorpur and that similar reports have come in from Kairana.

"BJP wants to avenge their defeat in the earlier bypolls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur anyhow and win the ongoing polls," he said.

RLD spokesman Anil Dubey echoed the Samajwadi Party's claims.

He said there were reports of EVM malfunctioning in both the constituencies, especially areas dominated by the RLD-SP combine.

"We (RLD and SP) are going to meet the chief electoral officer to lodge a formal complaint in this regard," Dubey added.

    Once again on UP bypolls day RLD, SP complain of EVM problems in nearly 200 booths.

    EVMs can record a maximum of 3840 votes. As normally the total number of electors in a polling station will not exceed 1500, the capacity of EVMs is more than sufficient.If multiply 200 EVM x 3840 votes/machine =7,68000 votes.
    In Gujarat, there were over 16 seats, where the victory margins were less than 3,000 votes. A vote transfer of even half a percent in a constituency of two lakh voters could result in a victory of a candidate who was originally trailing by 2000 votes. Such minimalistic vote transfer could go undetected because the winner could always use power to block any efforts for rigorous verifications.
    In recently concluded Karnataka assembly elections, the Election Commission said that there was a mismatch between actual votes cast and actual votes reflected on the EVMs in this Hubli-Dharwad Central, forcing the poll body to withdraw the result temporarily.
    The real extent of this mismatch can’t be verified because of the secrecy and non-transparency adopted by the EC with VVPAT verification processes. The EC was constitutionally duty bound to do such verification count in front of the candidates and counting agents before declaring the result.

    1. What no one knows but they must know is whether the EC verified even those 5% machines in closed room after the results were declared?
    2. Another important question that the EC must answer is if a digital transaction (voting in this case) in a machine can ever be different from the receipt?
    Most areas in the Netherlands used electronic voting in polling places. On 5 October 2006 the group “Wij vertrouwenstemcomputers niet” (We do not trust voting machines) demonstrated on Dutch television how the Nedap ES3B machines could be manipulated in five minutes.

    So many malfunctioning EVMs point to some sort of systematic anarchy!

    AFTER DEMONITISATION A WRONG DICISION BY PM NOBODY WANTS RSS-LED BJP GOVT ININDIA . FROM LAST 2 YEARS BJP WINS ONLY BY EVM MACHINES AND EVM MACHINES ONLY???????????????WHY BJP LOST BADLY WHEN THERE IS BALLOT VOTES ????????????WHEN ADVANCE COUNTRIES ARE USING ONLY BALLOT VOTING SYSTEM WHY INDIA IS NOT USING BALLOT VOTING SYSTEM.??????????????BJP IS TOTAL FRAUD GOVT .EVERYBODY NOW COMES TO KNOW THEN WHAT ELSE REQUIRED ?????IN THE MORNING MACHINE OK AFTER SOME TIMES MORE THAN 100 MACHINES SHOWS FAULTY MEAN S CLEAR MANUPLATION AND SETTING .
    THE RESULT THEY KNOW BEFORE ELECTION ONLY???????????THIS IS CALLED KILLING DEMOCRACY IN INDIA.FEKUGIRI, DADAGIRI AND HITLERGIRI AND MODIGIRI.

    We have strong doubts about DK and Udupi results going to the BJP because of EVM magic. We feel very sad and cannot understand how a candidate like Pramod was not elected this time.

    I don't understand why election commission can not implement more secured like finger print aadhar card methods that can control the additional votes and while pressing button that selected vote should drop to other box which can see the voter. so there you can reduce the this type problems. otherwise you should go back as paper ballot. that is only option.

    Every time same drama by EC, all political parties should boycott the election on EVM. Why EC is adamant to run election on EVM. Why BJP and NDA parties having trust on machines now????

    Before Swami and Advani also raised the issues why they keeping quite?

    The moment BJP came to know, the Punjab election will be won by Congress, they started manipulating EVM in UP and the results are in front of us. It is highly imposible bjp to win such a absolute majority when Congress/SP party formed a alliance and 5 English channels gave prediction saying all parties may not have absolute majority.

    Coastal Karnataka too EVM machines played a major role. Otherwise it is highly impossible BJP to win with such big margin. Those who oppose EVM are behind bars during that time and left them , after certain assurances.

    BAN EVM and there will be fair election.

    In spite of so many concerns the Election Commission is maintaining a stubborn stand. How can the elections be deemed fair if there are doubts in the minds of the people? How can it be in the public good even if a small percentage of the electorate cast doubts on the machines. This is against the constitution and against the fundamental right as enshrined in the constitution..

    Germany ended electronic voting in 2009 on grounds that the system lacked transparency. The Netherlands banned EVMs in 2007 after an anti-EVM group showed how the machines could be manipulated within five minutes without anybody spotting the fraud.

    In US, states that use electronic voting make a paper trail mandatory. England and France have never used EVMs.
    But FEKUGIRI rockes in India.

    The people of our great country ave realised that the BJP can win elections only by tampering the EVM's. What a anti climax to the 4600 crores of Tax payers money being spent on Publicity of the Prime Minister.

    All political parties and people of India should raise their voice for banning the EVM' Machines.

    Truth will come out and BJP will be exposed one day when technical crews of EVM blow the whistle if not now but surely someday in future.
    Here blaming EVM each and evrytime is not a wise idea. Oppostion either convince for ballet paper or boycot EVM.
