Udupi, Mar 19: Deanery level ‘Way of the Cross’ was conducted on Sunday, March 18 at St Anthony Church, Kuntalnagar. Fr Chethan, editor of ‘Uzwaad’ fortnightly conducted the proceedings.

Fr Chethan said, “It takes much strain and effort to win gold medals in Olympics. Politicians also toil hard to win elections. Likewise, without death there is no life. This is the time to understand the reality. Without sufferings there is no happiness.”

Devotees from nine parishes of Udupi deanery took part in the Way of the Cross. Prayers for children of Syria were offered. Each station was led by different parishioners of the deanery. The adoration of stations was followed by readings from the Holy Bible.

Fr Chethan conducted the Way of the Cross adoration. In his introductory note he said, “Way of the Cross adoration was started during the 4th century. This is a devotional celebration if conducted with holiness; otherwise it is a waste of time. Pope Francis said that Way of Cross enables us to trust Jesus to the fullest. It indicates that Jesus toils with us for us. It also gives us freedom to stand with Jesus or to go against Him.” Prior to Eucharistic celebration, confessions for devotees were also arranged.

Fr. Denis D’sa, parish priest, Fr Valerian Mendonc, Fr Clement Mascarenhas and other priests from Udupi deanery took part in the Eucharistic celebration and the Way of the Cross.
