Mangaluru, Mar 14: The city crime branch (CCB) police on Wednesday, March 14 busted a racket wherein fake marks cards were being printed in the name of Mangalore Institute of Technological Sciences (MITS) on T C Road, Thokkottu, Mangaluru and sold for amounts ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 45,000 per certifcate.

The CCB police arrested Godwin D'Souza, a resident of Ullal in this connection.

Godwin was employed in MITS, a bogus institute which was being run by its director Askan Sheikh since 2016. They were preparing SSLC, PUC, degree and diploma certificates and selling them. Principal Askar Sheikh, director Askan Sheikh and Godwin together used to obtain details of the students and the unemployed and prepare the certificates within a week. They would charge Rs 10,000 for SSLC and PUC certificates and Rs 40,000 for degree and diploma certificates.

Accused Godwin D'Souza

The accused would print fake SSLC marks cards stating that the candidates had completed SSLC in a school named 'Mangalore Public School'.

It is said that more than 150 people have obtained SSLC, PUC, degree, diploma and BTech marks cards from them. The 'institute' was started in June 2016. Several aspirants were even sold certificates stating that they had studied in MITS in 2013.

Police have recovered fake marks cards and certificates, laptop, three fake seals, printer used to print the certificates, paper used for the purpose and and iPhone from the accused Godwin D’ Souza.

Earlier, director Askan Sheikh had opened Eduexcel Consultancy in Mangalore institute of Management Engineering near Pumpwell in 2016 and was selling fake certificates. CCB police had raided the premises, recovered fake certificates and registered a case.

CCB police inspector Shantaram, PSI Sham Sunder, Kabbalraj and Ullal PSI Gurappa Kanthi took part in the operation.
