Abu Dhabi: MCC holds Mangalore Cup, fest at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium

Abu Dhabi, Mar 8: Mangalore Cup 2018 (Season-6) cricket tournament and Mangalore fest was held under the aegis of the Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) at Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium recently.

Inaugurating the event, Abdul Salam said “The power of human will to compete and the drive to excel beyond body’s normal capabilities is most beautifully demonstrated in the arena of sport. It does not matter how good you are. Sport is all about playing and competing. Whatever you do in cricket and in sport, enjoy it, stay positive and try to win.”

Matthew Boucher, CEO of Abu Dhabi Cricket (ADC) witnessed Mangalurean cultural event and cricket match. He had congratulated MCC president for organizing excellent cultural event and expressed his pleasure to host Mangalurean community at the international cricket stadium.



During the presentation ceremony Ronald Pinto, managing director, Hyssna International addressed the gathering via tele-conference. He expressed sincere gratitude to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of UAE and other rulers for their everlasting support towards the expatriate community.

He stated MCC’s humble beginning was initiated six years ago in a mud pitch within the short span of time it had reached to International Cricket stadium and turned in to a Festival for the Mangalorean Community. He applauded the dedication and hard work, passion for cricket of MCC president Latheef K H.

Walter Almeida, managing director, Regal Furnishing & Storage System, congratulated all the teams. He said, “Winning or losing is part of game and he appreciated MCC efforts to bring all the community and sports lovers under one platform.”

Dr Rajeev Pillai, vice-president, Dar Al Shifa Hospital, thanked MCC cricket club for its fantastic work, he also expressed his happiness as Dar Al Shifa Hospital being the health partner in the MCC event. He said, “The day I started to interact with MCC president Latheef, I was amazed by the level of commitment and passion he is having towards cricket. He carries cricket in his heart, he walks cricket and he sleeps cricket. I wish magnificent growth for the MCC, as it grows bigger, together all we can grow.”

Queen Victoria Award winner Safe Line Group of Companies managing director Aboobackar Kuttikol admired the Mangalurean fest full day event especially incredible cultural programme of kids and cricket tournament coordination.

MCC president Latheef K H Kakkinje honored the guests and sponsors with memento. SahilZaheer, RJ, 98.3 FM, flew all the way from India as master of ceremony. He was successful in maintaining the energy of the crowd till the last moment.

As many as 16 teams from places across the United Arab Emirates participated in the event. All the participating teams played to their best attempt keeping the scores and sprits very high. ‘Steps & Strings’ music, dance, arts and events institute children performed dazzling cultural dance. Cricket match and kids dance went hand in hand with the huge applause from the crowd.

In the finals, Safe Line Royal Thunders won the toss and elected to field. Eleven Warriors managed to put up the good score of 23 runs (3 overs). They defended their score with controlled over and good spells of Niamath and Haroon restricting Royal Thunders to 16 runs and took 4 wickets. Eleven Warriors emerged as champions. Safe Line Royal Thunders turned out to be the runner-up of the tournament.

Best keeper of tournament – Hamdan – Sumtech B
Hatrick wicket taker – Richu Mundol – MCC

There were many trophies in following categories: Man of the match award in each league matches, best bowler, best Keeper, best Fielder, best all-rounder, best catcher etc.

Spectators received laptop, mobile phone and other attractive prizes under coupon lucky draw. Red Bull, Coco Cola, Arwa, Almarai products Seba Med, Pediasure, and Arab Euro, put up their kiosks and freely distributed their products to all spectators to support the tournament under their corporate responsibility and social commitment ethos. Face painting for kids and other sports activities were also organized for families.

Dar Al Shifa Hospital held free health checkup at the stadium for the spectators and teams.

MCC president Latheef K H and Royal Emirates extended heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors, teams and crowd for making the sixth season a great success. Mangalore Cricket Club’s successive sixth season was full of action and excitement. Eminent social workers and NRI business conglomerates were present during the presentation ceremony. Prize distribution and winding up ceremony was blissful with many delegates.
