Bengaluru: Apostolic Nuncio to India preaches homily at Eucharistic celebrations

Bengaluru, Feb 3: The general body meeting of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India began with a solemn Eucharist celebration on Friday, February 2. The Eucharist was concelebrated by the four cardinals of India, Cardinal Charles Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, Myanmar, hundreds of bishops and priests. Others present at the Eucharist included nuns, nurses, lay leaders and the faithful from different walks of life.

The choir, comprising students and staff of St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, sang during the Eucharist and received applause from the participants for the good job done.



Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro, Apostolic Nuncio to India, who presided over a solemn Eucharistic celebration and preaching the homily described the day’s gospel – the feast of the presentation. He said Jesus’ parents had joy and delight in fulfilling the law and taking care of him. Jesus Mary and Joseph remained united and they were guided by the Holy Spirit. They experienced happiness at all times. Jesus went to the temple inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Archbishop Diquattro presented the work of the Holy Spirit in people’s lives at different stages. The person touching the fringe of the garment got cured. Jesus came to let loose the captives. His actions were in obedience to the Father’s wish and will. All are called to serve the Lord to experience the joy in its fullness. Encounter with Jesus becomes unique which the prophets and other chosen leaders experienced. Mary was full of Holy Spirit. The mystery of the encounter is highlighted in the gospel. Among other things, the Vatican Ambassador to India said the Holy Spirit prepared the Church in India.

Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas SFX, secretary general, thanked the Apostolic Nuncio, cardinals, archbishops, bishops and priests besides all those took part in the Eucharist and the staff of St John’s for their support and contribution in various ways.

The general body meeting of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India got underway with the formal inauguration soon after the Eucharistic celebrations.
