Mangaluru, Jan 20: The state government has sanctioned Rs 6.50 crore for the construction of an international-level badminton and kabaddi indoor stadium at Urwa, informed MLA J R Lobo.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday January 20, MLA J R Lobo said, "The badminton and kabaddi association had approached me with a proposal of constructing a new kabaddi and badminton indoor stadium in Mangaluru. The government approved 1.13 acre of land at Urwa for the indoor stadium, for which it has sanctioned Rs 6.5 crore. I thank minister for sports Pramod Madhwaraj and additional chief secretary of the sports department Rajaneesh Goyal for taking up the initiative to make this happen.

"The government has sanction Rs 3 crore for the construction of swimming pool at Yekkur, out of which Rs 1 crore has been released so far. We plan to construct a swimming pool at Shaktinagar as well. There are a lot of swimmers emerging from Mangaluru and a swimming pool at Shaktinagar will definitely benefit them," he said.

Proprietor of Alva and Associates Supreeth Alva said, "The indoor stadium will consist of three floors. There will be four synthetic courts each for kabaddi and badminton, with a seating capacity of 1000. It will also have cafeteria, gym, rest room, guest room, banquet hall, pantry, dining and lounge."

Kabbaddi association president Sadananda Shetty, Mangala Badminton Club president Venkatesh, Deepak, Santhosh Shetty and others were present.

Its good news for budding players who are aiming at Pro Kabaddi league selection.
Dakshina Kannada always produced good Kabaddi players, sure this facility would boost their morale. Once it is ready we would like to see few Pro Kabaddi matches at this venue.

Mr Lobo with all due respect would appreciate if you would see through these projects and then make statements about release of funds i.e the mere release of funds is meaningless until and unless the funds have been used for the implementation and completion of projects they are allocated for! Ball is in your court!

The in door stadium in urwa which is opposite side of urwa market. It is a very good locality. Only issue will be vehicle parking .

Request the authorities, on the basement, please make arrangement for parking vehicle.

    Good luck for this project.

Money well spent on youth for a good cause by Sid govt than what BJP would have spent on destruction of the state like Gau Rakshaks, beef ban, moral police, protests, love jihad and lynching own men for sympathy vote politics.
