Mangaluru: Plan afoot for Rs 1000 crore parallel road on Nethravati bank

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 27: Plans are afoot to build an alternative road that connects New Mangalore Port with an investment of one thousand crore rupees. The proposed road will pass through Nethravati river bank.

The new road is projected to ease traffic on city roads like Car Street, Mannagudde, Bolar, Ladyhill etc as thousands of vehicles transporting fish from the fishing dock at Bunder area of the city move through this route. The restriction placed on entry of heavy vehicles into the city during the morning hours can also be handled with the building of this new road. This road is also thought to reduce traffic in city areas.

During the BJP-JD(S) coalition government in the state, a plan to build a hanging bridge from Sultan Battery to Thannirbavi had been announced. Once the current project takes shape, this hanging bridge project will be shelved as a new, permanent bridge, will come in its place. The bridge will be so laid that it does not restrict movement of small and big ships. The journeys between places like Bunder to New Mangalore Port and Nethravati, Gurpur River and beach will provide picturesque scenery, opening up opportunity for these areas to become tourist attractions.

A private consultancy has been given the responsibility of preparing an estate for the proposed road, and the construction of this road will transform the very look of the city, said MLA, J R Lobo.

Though it is announce now it is not known when this Project will be commenced? May be after 10 years! meanwhicle what happened to the linking road from Ullal to Kulur? The same position like construction of Multistoreyed building (parking cum complex) at old bus stand should not come to these projects also.

Concerned authorities given permission for building multistory residential flats on the sides of narrow roads of Mangalore city. Now they are facing traffic congestion.Doubt this parallel road will ease out traffic congestion. One mistake, to solve they do another mistake. Absolutely no planning.

    This is an Excellent idea
I pity about those who are commenting without any proper background knowledge of the are
Already Muncipality and State and Central govt together didn't allow any construction for about 500 metres on the coast of Netravati river .It's totally free and very good idea
This project can be a big success for Mangalore
    Welcome step

Busiest Carstreet road in Mangaluru was proposed for 80 feet wide as per MUDA master plan 2020. Due to political(7) pressure it was reduced to 60 feet. And finally now it is 50 feet wide. This we call as development.

I hear the same story from past 5 to 6 years from Lobo that this road will be construed. No action so far, first finish the existing roads in the city and nearby area's and then try to fool the people during election. First create complete plan of action and then call for press meet.
