Mangaluru: 1.43 lac new voters registered in DK district in last five years

Mangaluru, Dec 6: The draft voters list pertaining the upcoming state assembly election scheduled to be held in 2018 has been published. As per this list, compared to 2013 election, 1,43,677 new voters have been enlisted during the last five years in Dakshina Kannada district. During the 2013 election, there were 15,01,024 voters. This has now risen to 16,44,701.

Domination of female voters continues even this time. In 2013 voters list, there were 7,57,561 female voters as compared to 7,43,463 male voters. Female voters outnumber their male counterparts by 23,943 this time as compared to 14,098 in 2013. The total voters comprise 8,10,379 men and 8,34,322 women.

There has been an increase in number of polling booths too. As against 1,776 polling centres which functioned in 2013, the number this time has swelled to 1,800, These additional 24 centres are distributed among different taluks.

The process of making ammendments, adding of names and removal of names to the draft voters list will now be undertaken, after which final voters list will be published on February 15, 2018. There is a time of about two months for revision of voters list.
