Bengaluru, Dec 5: Karnataka’s Fisheries Department is holding a four-day Mathsya Mela-2017, a fisheries event at the Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium in Bengaluru from Friday December 8.

About four lakh visitors are expected to visit the event, Fisheries Minister Pramod Madhwaraj told reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

The mela will provide a single point access to development schemes and source of knowledge to people seeking information on fisheries — both inland and marine.

The minister said the event will mark the completion of six decades of the Department of Fisheries in Karnataka.

Karnataka’s fish production stood at four lakh tonnes and exports were worth Rs1,500 crore a year, he said.

The key objective of the extravaganza is to connect industries and institutions with fishermen.

The exhibition aims to provide a common platform for diversified fisheries stakeholders to establish a strategic partnership and to give impetus to technology-led fisheries development in the State, the Minister said.
