Mangaluru: 'Central Command Centre' to come up in city for better surveillance

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (PMD)

Mangaluru, Oct 7: CCTV cameras in all places, automatic action for violation of traffic rules, technological surveillance to identify leakage in water pipes, bus tracking facility, and emergency public response button, among other facilities will no longer remain a holy grail for us to achieve as the city takes a step towards the Centre's dream project of the 'Smart City'.

The city is all set to get tech-savvy with the implementation of Smart Mangaluru.

To bring the project to fruition, a Central Command Centre at the cost of Rs 60 crore will be set up on the third floor of the city corporation.

For the establishment of the centre, a detailed project report will be prepared and sent to Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation for technical approval. Thereafter, administrative permission will be sought by the high-level committee in Bengaluru, and tenders will be called for the operation of the centre. Tender will be given for five years. Operational responsibility will later be transferred to the corporation. Those who obtain the tender and contract must be well acquainted with all types of world-class software, and other technical equipments including LED TV at the Command Centre. The company that has the lease for all skilled technicians operating here will operate for 5 years.

The traffic systems of the entire city will be controlled by the centre, as has been done abroad. With the system being automated, more power lies in the hands of citizens.

All CCTV cameras to be linked

A total land area of 1628 acre that covers Hampankatta, Car Street, and Bunder has seen this dream of smart city come true. Other parts of the city too will be integrated in it. The CCTV cameras of the most important places in the city will be linked to the centre. Cameras at the city's malls, town hall, corporation, parks, shops, and public places will be linked to the centre.

Underground Cable Facility

Smart City will free the city from all the cables hanging by the roads. Instead, cables will be installed underground. The Central Command Center will operate to ensure a seamless transition.

Top Class Roads

The foremost priority of the smart city project is well equipped roads, underground drainage system and a well established road network.

RFID enabled 400 automatic garbage vehicles, 100 public toilets, 350 CCTV cameras for the traffic system, tracking facility for 750 buses, 150 Wi-Fi centers, 200 information boards, 20 walkways, 30 ambulance with advanced facilities, 20 km cycle track and many other facilities are proposed in the Smart Mangaluru Project.
