Moodbidri: Kambala time table announced- PETA approaches Supreme Court

Daijiworld Media Network - Moodbidri (SP)

Moodbidri, Sep 25: At the meeting of Dakshina Kannada district Kambala Samiti held at Samaj Mandir here on Sunday September 24, the time table of Kambalas for the year 2107-18 was released. Conditions to run the Kambala without any hindrances or violations were also drawn up.

It was decided that organizers of Kambala should ensure that the buffaloes taking part in Kambalas are not inflicted with any physical violence.

President of the Samiti, Shantaram Shetty Barkur, presided. Adviser, Kolachur Kondottu Sukumar Shetty, honorary president of the Samiti, Bhaskar Kotian, treasurer, P R Shetty, vice presidents, Srinivas Kamath Attur Gundyadka, Anil Shetty Mankuthotaguthu, and Bellipady Keshav Bhandary, general secretary, Vijayakumar Kanginamane, convener of judges, Kukkundur Raveendra Kumar and chairman of Moodbidri Urban Development Authority, Suresh Prabhu, were present.

As per the time table, Moodbidri Kambala will be held on November 11, Pilikula on November 19, Hokkadigoli on November 25, Kottara Mangaluru on December 3, Baradibeedu on December 9, Venoor on December 16, December 23 at Mulky, December 31 at Suratkal, January 6 at Miyyar, January 13 at Adve, January 20 at Puttur, January 27 at Aikalabava, February 3 at Katapadi, February 10 at Jappinamogaru, February 18 at Vamanjur, February 24 at Uppinangady, February 25 at Altar-Barkur, March 3 at Bangadikolli, March 10 at Kakyapadavu and March 18 at Talapady.

In the meanwhile, it is learnt that People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), an organization fighting for rights of animals, has filed a suit in Supreme Court on September 22, seeking to annul the ordinance promulgated to pave way for holding of Kambala sport. While this move has given rise to concerns among owners of buffaloes, organizers of Kambalas and Kambala fans, district president of Kambala Samiti, Barkur Shantaram Shetty, expressed the confidence that the Supreme Court might not agree to issue stay order against holding of Kambala, in the light of the fact that it had not agreed to stay Jallikattu sport in Tamil Nadu when PETA approached SC, duly objecting to the ordinance issued to allow that sport to be held.

Humble request to all "kambala abhimaanis" please don't use the canes on buffellos, use it against PETA and teach them a lesson for their life. It will not be considered as cruelity on animals. They should not dare to come to kambala with camcorders ever again.

Kambla is not torture. Kambla is our culture. If PETA considers this as torture then even using cattle for ploughing the fields should be banned.
I think PETA should go through history and then learn a few things..
