Bantwal: Four district roads being developed out of central grant - Nalin

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Sep 21: "Four roads which lead from B C Road to Polali, Kateel, Mulky connecting road and Melkar-Konaje-Thokkottu road, stand transferred to National Highways Authority of India as they have been planned to be developed and widened to 40 metres. Survey work will be undertaken within a week through DPI tender," said Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha mamber, Nalin Kumar Kateel.

He shared this information with media persons present on Wednesday September 20, after initiating concreting work for the service road at B C Road.

The MP said that the central government has given its approval for development of four roads including B C Road - Siddakatte - Moodbidri road and Kalladka - Cherkala connecting road. "Public works department will undertake road works. To facilitate early completion of work, revenue department needs to acquire land needed for widening of these roads," he explained.

Kateel said that L&T company has bagged the contract for developing national highway between B C Road and Addahole into four-lane road, and that works on it will begin soon and that work on this road will be completed by 2019. At Kalladka, work will begin as soon as revenue department sorts out the fly over issue, he stated.

Nalin also said that National Highways Authority fund has released Rs 19 crore for laying three service roads in the district, out of which Rs 1.72 crore will be spend for development of service road at B C Road. "Out of this, concreting of 550 metres of road from the beginning of the fly over till the end has begun here. This work will conclude in two months after the rainy season," he explained.

The MP noted that even after compensation was remitted for expansion of the service road at B C Road, 12 buildings are yet to be cleared. He said that a list of such buildings has been provided to the deputy commissioner by highways authority and hoped for positive action soon. Some bus shelters also need to be removed. He said that the bus shelters will be set up at the spots identified by highways authority out of MP Local Area Development fund.

On this occaison, some people approached Kateel requesting him to help in removing the obstruction to the road leading to children's hospital from B C Road and also the road connecting BSNL office. He consulted with the engineer and instructed the concerned to solve these problems.

Nalin also said that the central government has provided for building a complex at a cost of three crore rupees for long distance travellers, which will include rest rooms, drinking water, toilets etc, and that he has recommended to station the same at B C Road Junction.

BJP leader, Rajesh Naik Ulipadyguthu, DK zilla panchayat member, Raveendra Kambali, former MLA, A Rukmaya Poojary, BJP block president, B Devadas Shetty, state BJP vice president, Sulochana G K Bhat and several others were present.

In Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency BJP is in power since 1992 for 25 long years. But national highways seems more congested, poorly maintained and worst in terms of infrastructure.

Though we have seen some new road with every 50 Km one toll gate, no one knows where all the road tax collected goes. In every year we have seen budget allocation for new infrastructure. But hardly anyone in India questions how much of the budget is properly utilised at the end of the project?

“We are building 20 kms/day of new roads.” This is an often heard statement made by everyone from Nitin Gadkari to every Tom, Dick and Bhagwat of the BJP.

According to the report submitted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Research Wing, as on 31 March 2014, India had a total of 91,287 kms of national highways.

So if this is true, then in the last three years, the NHAI and the NHIDCL should have built a total of 21,900 kms of new roads.
Let’s now play some counting games!

20 kms/day in three years. Any idea how much would this add up to?

20 X 3 X 365 = 21,900 kms (What BJP claims they have built since forming the government at the Centre in May 2014.)

For those pretending to be intelligent BJP supporters, who would say, “but how can you count Sunday, when it’s holiday?’ Even after excluding Sundays, the figure still comes to 18,780 kms. But since this BJP government is ‘known’ to work 24 X 7 every week under a hard-working prime minister, I am going with the previous figure.

10,0087 (current length of national highways under the NHAI) – 91,287 (length of national highways as on 31 March 2014) = 8,800 kms. This is what the Modi government’s own data claims what they have built in little over 3 years in office.

So, in effect we have 21,900 – 8,800 = 13,100 kms of national highways missing to justify the BJP spokies’ claims on TV channels.

So where have these 13,100 kms of national highways been built? In Nitin Gadkari’backyard or in Nagpur inside the RSS headquarter?
    Jai hind

Four district roads being developed out of central grant:
I request Hon'ble MP Navin kateel to use his good offices to expedite work on these roads. This will definitely help in bypassing traffic that would otherwise have to enter mangalore thereby freeing all the junctions on the way such as Kottara, KPT, Nanthoor, pumpwell and thokottu.
