Mangaluru: AIMIT hosts national level business plan contest 'Manasa Manthana'

Mangaluru, Sep 16: St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, Beeri, on Friday, September 15, hosted 'Manasa Manthana', a national-level business plan contest for economic and social sustainability.

The contest was organised by MAKARIOS - Management Club at the Post Graduate Department of Business Administration, AIMIT.

Every year, significant and current issues are proposed, and a platform is given to students to put forth their views. The theme of Manasa Manthana this year was 'Economic and Social Sustainability'.


    












































Manasa Manthana 2k17 focused on directing thinking towards sustainable development in the economy and society, with innovative, feasible and realistic business ideas. The event intended to provide solutions to various economic and societal dilemmas for sustainable development, where a win-win strategy for business and society was the need of the hour.
 
The inaugural function commenced with the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries.
 
Fr Denzil Lobo, director, AIMIT, welcomed the gathering and introduced the dignitaries on the dais. The director informed the audience that the event name 'Manasamanthana' was coined under his tutelage by the 2007 batch and explained the significance of the same. Fr Denzil Lobo said, "Manasa Manthana which means churning of the mind is analogous to the mythical churning of the ocean. It involves vigorous tossing and stirring up of new paradigms in the realm of management."

The director exhorted the participants to come up with innovative, feasible and sustainable practical business plans and ideas.
 
Fr Olvin Veigas graced the occasion as chief guest. In his address to the students and participants, he dwelt upon the economic and social dilemmas faced by the society at large. He said, managing the enterprise is managing the household. He emphasised on inclusive and sustainable integral human development and gave the audience the magic mantra of the three I’s  'Initiate, Imitate, and Innovate' as a solution for sustainable growth and development.
 
Guest of honour Michael D'Souza, a generous benefactor and well-wisher of St Aloysius College and an entrepreneur, gave a thought-provoking inaugural address. Michael D'Souza shared his experience as a vibrant entrepreneur and advised the young minds to take up entrepreneurship. Drawing a practical and application-oriented triangle necessary for the success of every entrepreneur, Michael D'Souza explained that the three sides of the triangle were - abundant capital, adequate knowledge and ideas, and clear customer value.                                           
 
In his presidential address Fr Praveen Martis, principal, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), enumerated the history of ‘excellence’ of St Aloysius College. He motivated the future managers to have a vision and set a desire by giving the 5 C’s of success, namely, Competence, Commitment, Compassion, Conscience and Courage. Declaring that a vigorous churning of the mind was the need of the hour, the principal advocated a steadfast adherence to 'Magis', the quest for more.
 
Fr Freddy Menezes, finance minister, AIMIT St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Dean of MBA department Dr Rowena Wright and faculty coordinator Ravi Kudtharkar, Anup Acharya, Management Club secretary along with student coordinators Vishwas Nayak and Prajwal Bhaktha were present.
 
More than 40 teams attended the B plan contest and the day was filled with socially and economically relevant ideas from budding young entrepreneurial minds. The team from NITTE won the coveted trophy. The runners-up were the teams from Agnes College and St Joseph’s, Vamanjoor respectively. In the home ground, the team led by Fr Joy Pradeep Rodrigues and Suraj were declared winners for the first and second place respectively.
