Managaluru, Aug 26: St Peter's Higher Primary School, Kottara, here on August 27, inaugurated its new computer laboratory and peripheral and wifi services sponsored by Early Learning Centre.

Fr Austine Peter Peres, parish priest of Derebail church, presided over the programme.

In his presidential speech, Fr Peter said, “There is a day and night difference between education system of the past and the current education system. Nowadays, inclusion of technology is crucial in education. Computers and e-learning are now being used in schools and colleges largely. In the current world, everything depends on computers and e-services. There is a broad chance of gaining knowledge through the internet and related services. I am happy that our school too is adopting this modern technology with the new computer lab. I congratulate all students and teachers for this new development in the campus.”

“On the occasion of his 80th birthday John Moras, and his son Vijay and daughter-in-law  Sonia Moras donated the computer lab and computers to our school by the name of their institution Early Learning Centre. This is not the first time he has donated something to our school. He regularly gives something to our school and children. The Moras family have a special place in our school. We are grateful to their kindness.”

Nagaveni, local corporator, said, “Today we are celebrating the birth day of Mother Theresa. She was a great symbol of charity, service and humanity. She sacrificed everything for the sake of the poor, especially the lepers. Today, John Moras also celebrates his birthday. His deed of donation of computer lab reminds us the service of Mother Theresa. These types of people always become role model for us and society. We should all think about what we can give to society instead of what we can get from it.”

Rajaneesh, deputy mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation, said, “There is no language bar when it comes to learning. We can learn in any language, and increase our vast knowledge base. Nowadays, there is a general opinion about English medium schools being far better than Kannada medium. But this notion is untrue. We have plenty of examples wherein Kannada students have become famous in various fields, around the globe. We have to change ourselves and become more innovative. I hope the new computer lab will be helpful to the students in their academics and a means to broaden their knowledge, besides their usual syllabus.”

Fr Austine Peter Peres  Rajaneesh, Nagaveni, John Moras, donor of the computer lab, Florine Moras, Vijay Moras of Early Learning Center, Patricia Lobo, headmistress of the school and Vincent, leader of the local ward, inaugurated the programme with the ceremonial lighting of lamp.

Fr Austine Peter Peres blessed the laboratory with holy water and prayed.
