Mangaluru: SJEC secures first place in Karnataka in SAEINDIA e-BAJA

Mangaluru, Aug 18: Team SJEC Motorsport from St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru has secured the first rank in Karnataka and the 12th rank in India in the e-BAJA category of SAEINDIA Virtual BAJA - 2017, an event for undergraduate engineering students, organized globally by the Society of Automotive Engineers, USA.

In SAEINDIA Virtual BAJA, teams from different colleges across India presented their design of ATV (all-terrain vehicle) virtually. The teams were judged on six main parameters - knowledge of the rule book, the design of the vehicle, the project plan, the design methodology and the design evaluation plan. e-BAJA is a competition to develop and present an electric all-terrain vehicle within the SAEINDIA specified specifications.

The event was held at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bengaluru. Two teams from SJEC - Team SJEC Racing comprising Arbaz Abdul Khader Sayed (team captain), Ananth Bhat, Harshith Kumar, Lohith and Lionel D’Silva, and team SJEC Motorsport comprising Suraj Pai K (team Captain), Uttam Madhukar Bangera, Subhramanya, Kiran and Daniel presented designs of their ATV in the category of m-BAJA and e-BAJA, respectively.

Both the teams have been selected for the main event which will be held in Pithampur – NATRiP, Indore, Madhya Pradesh from January 24 to January 30, 2018. Both the teams have started fabrication of their ATV and are looking for sponsorship for further improvement in the vehicle.

SJEC has congratulated Team SJEC Motorsport of e-BAJA event on their wonderful achievement.

    This is indeed a good news. This news brings a great deal of pride to all of Mangalore for the prestigious recognition as a first place winner in Karnataka. The advancement of auto industry in India is already known to the world. As the industry grows to a larger size, it is obvious that it will create more jobs and more economic opportunities for further growth.

    Transportation in an ever-growing population in India will gain increased momentum without doubt. Obviously the auto industry will encourage more broader roads, more well maintained roads so that all the vehicles will move smoothly and safely, and the entire country will receive a new "face lift" so that people can travel from place to place smoothly bringing each State get closer with further opportunities for Trade and Tourism to prosper.

    Let us not forget that the auto industry is a single segment that employs a largest population of workforce in the country that will generate better economy and more job opportunities in the years to come.
