Entrepreneurship is on the rise, and for good reason. However, the statistics shows that over 90% of all start-ups fail within the first two years. Starting a new company is generally around 20% idea and 80% execution. How well you manage this execution ultimately determines the success of any start-up. Every start-up is riddled with challenges and they start even before it is setup. The challenges range from identifying a problem and the optimum solution to it (idea), how to execute this idea such that it solves the problem effectively and in a cost efficient manner, how do you convince your family and friends to support you and invest in your idea to raising money through external sources, building the right team that is confident to work with you to translate your ideas into reality, finding your initial customers, managing cash flow so that you sustain until you make some major breakthrough and so on. Each of these aspects have to be dealt with independently and with proper acumen to ensure that the start-up stands on a strong foundation.
Walter Vieira is no stranger to start-ups as well as established organizations and has worked closely with several start-ups to help them grow into well-established corporates. Walter Vieira, is a senior management consultant who started India’s first Marketing Consulting Company (MAS) in 1975. He offers consulting and training services to companies in India, S E Asia, Africa and USA, over three decades. He is the author of 11 books including The Winning Manager; Manager to CEO and World Passport for the Global Manager. He has lectured at Kellogg, Cornell, NYU and many other business schools in USA, Europe and India. He has published over 700 articles in the business press. He was the first Asian elected chairman of the ICMCI (the world apex body of Management Consultants from 42 countries). Vieira was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005 by IMC-India, for his contribution in consulting; and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 by INDYS, for his contribution to marketing.
