Mangaluru: Independence Day, ‘Konkani Phudara Divas’ celebrated at Sacred Heart Church

Mangaluru, Aug 16: Sacred Heart Church celebrated Independence Day and ‘Konkani Phudara Divas’ at Surathkal on Tuesday, August 15.

Presiding over the programme, Fr Paul Pinto said, “We should honour our language Konkani, its traditions and culture. Members of our community should mingle with each othernad spread love and togetherness. We should also teach our next generation culture and traditions.”

Chief guest Ellias Sanctis propagated about Konkani and suggested ways to improve it by giving more importance to it.

Writer, actor, poet Ronald Joseph Sequeira was honoured on the occasion. He said that by speaking in Konkani, people can take forward this languages through generations and keep it alive.

The programme was compered by Naveen Periera. Cultural coordinator Asha Pinto delivered the vote of thanks.

Parish council vice-president Dony Suvares, secretary Bernard D'Souza, and SCC's animator Prafulla Lobo were present.
