Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 15: District superintendent of police K T Balakrishna, accompanied by a team of officials, visited the residence of Shankaracharya from Padubelle, where all four family members had died due to poison consumption. He guided investigations from various angles and instructed the police to hasten the investigation.

All the rooms in acharya's home as well as his jewellery shop have been confiscated. The policemen also made enquiries about calls made by the family members before the suicide. Brothers of the late Shankaaracharya, Harishchandra Acharya and Damodar Acharya, were also questioned about possible reasons for this devastating act. A relative named Arun Acharya who had worked in the jewellery shop in the past, was also questioned.

The boy from Chennai with whom the elder daughter of Shankaracharya was to marry in a few weeks from now, arrived from Chennai . It is said as per his claim, Shankaracharya, Nirmala Acharya and Shruti had called him over phone on Thursday morning. The police reportedly got clue that Shankaracharya had raised loans from various sources. He also had borrowed for educating his daughters, as he wanted to accede to their wish to pursue higher education towards brightening their future.

Kaup police circle inspector, Halamurthy Rao, is guiding the investigation undertaken by Shirva police.

    Never go overboard with expenses.

It's better to live in peace without loans rather than being in debt.

Live within our means. This is a lesson to everyone.

This suicide maybe related to marriage of his elder daughter. Daughter may have gone against father's wishes to marry boy of her choice. Mr Acharya might not have digested this, even wife and younger daughter may have sided with elder daughter. This maybe honour killing.

The following are my observations -
    1. Shankaracharya had spent a lot on education & other expenses of his daughters.
    2. Demonetization has affected his jewelry business.
    3. He had a lot of debt.
    4. Someone whom he had taken loan from might have told him something of bad taste about his family.
    5. He thought that he cannot take loan anymore for his daughter's wedding.

i have seen many places wives eating the brains of their husband for borrowing loans for big house, for education loans, and comparing with other children this is a lesson to everyone, those who go for loan!! before borrowing loan first study ur situation, sit and think 5 times, and check your capacity, dont go beyond your capacity, check also your income, dont be competitive. dont compare your children to neighbours children. if u dont have capacity to spend for higher education there are govt institutions in other streams which are cheaper than private. later on husband fed up with life and land up in such situation. blaming/questioning now is of no use. dead will never come back again.

Yes, John, you have explained the reality, that is going on in many families.
A man in Mumbai, after heart surgery, was asked by doctor, whom he should send inside ICU, since many of his family members were waiting. "Doctor, send anyone, but, never, my wife" he said. Since it is strange, later, doctor asked him the reason and he explained that to satisfy his wife's desire, to keep up with Joneses, he struggled a lot collecting diamonds for her, that had landed him there.

Although he is an honest and upright person killing himself and his family is not acceptable, at least he should have spared his family if the ghastly act is done by him only. Never listen to women if they demand to spend more, stretch one's leg as per his sources is the proverb true for all the time.

The only person remains with you, even in your adversity, is not your friend, but your creditor. Better go to bed supper less, than rising in debt.
