Mangaluru, Jun 29: A two-day national conference on Smart Computing and Control NCSCC-17 jointly organized by the departments of computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, and computer applications of St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor here was inaugurated at the SJEC conference hall on Thursday June 29. The conference is being organized in association with Tata Consultancy Services, Bengaluru and Scientific and Academic Publishers, United States.
Dr Anirban Prabhu, president of Computer Society of India, the chief guest for the programme inaugrated the seminar by lightening the lamp along with Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza, director, SJEC, Fr Rohith D'Costa, assistant director, SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalves, principal, SJEC, Dr Rio D'Souza, HoD-CSE, Dr Sheryl Grace Coloco, HoD-EEE, Sumangala N, HoD-MCA and Sridevi Saralaya, associate professor, department of computer science and engineering, SJEC.
In his inaugural speech, Dr Anirban said, "India is promoting digitization on priority basis and trying to capture the global digital market. By introducing start-up plans the government is providing all necessary assistant to young entrepreneurs. It gives more hopes to software students and engineers. There are a lot of opportunities in software research. Computer Society of India too is providing various platforms to students for their research works.
"St Joseph Engineering College has already gained much popularity in research and study. I congratulate the administration for holding a national-level conference on Smart Computing. I hope this conference gets attention at the national and international levels," he added.
In his presidential speech Fr Wilfred Prakash said, "For the first time in SJEC history, a conference is being conducted by three departments. Such conferences paves the way for additional learning and exchange of new ideas and thoughts. The world is running behind smart things so every individual also needs to think about it. I wish all success to the organizers and the participants of this conference."
Dr Joseph Gonsalves said, "Our country is now under the grip of digital revolution. Each person is identified by cards like Aadhar, PAN or bank passbook. Everything is turning into smart digital system. Day by day, we are becoming technology-friendly citizens. So there is much scope for innovations. This is a fruitful time for the software world.
"Today, researchers are getting quick attention in this software-driven world. So conferences such as these are helpful for researchers who want to present their papers in innovative ways. I wish all success to this event and its organisers," he added.
Dr Rio D'Souza delivered the introductory address and welcomed the dignitaries with bouquets.
The conference will have four technical paper presentations, namely communication network and internet technology, power electronics drives and energy management systems, intelligent systems and knowledge management, and smart environments.
